10 Examples Of How “Big Brother” Is Steadily Creeping Into Our Daily Lives

by Michael Snyder – End Of The American Dream

Virtually everything that you do is being watched.  Do you drive a car?  Do you watch television?  Do you use a cell phone?  As you do any of those things, information about you is being recorded and tracked.  We live at a time when personal privacy is dying. And it is not just governments that are doing this.

In fact, sometimes private companies are the biggest offenders.  It turns out that gathering information about all of us is very, very profitable.  And both government entities and private companies are going to continue to push the envelope when it comes to high tech surveillance until people start objecting to what they are trying to do.

If we continue down the path that we are currently on, it is inevitable that we will end up living in an extremely restrictive “Big Brother” police state where basically everything that we do is very closely watched, monitored, tracked and controlled.  And such a day may be much closer than you think.

The following are 10 examples of how “Big Brother” is steadily creeping into our daily lives… #1 Our cars are rapidly being transformed into high tech “Big Brother” surveillance devices.  In fact, a push is being made to require all new vehicles to include very sophisticated black box recorders

As if the government wasn’t already able to track our movements on the nation’s highways and byways by way of satellites, GPS devices, and real-time traffic cameras, government officials are now pushing to require that all new vehicles come installed with black box recorders and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, ostensibly to help prevent crashes.

Yet strip away the glib Orwellian doublespeak, and what you will find is that these black boxes and V2V transmitters, which will not only track a variety of data, including speed, direction, location, the number of miles traveled, and seatbelt use, but will also transmit this data to other drivers, including the police, are little more than Trojan Horses, stealth attacks on our last shreds of privacy, sold to us as safety measures for the sake of the greater good, all the while poised to wreak havoc on our lives.

Black boxes and V2V transmitters are just the tip of the iceberg, though. The 2015 Corvette Stingray will be outfitted with a performance data recorder which “uses a camera mounted on the windshield and a global positioning receiver to record speed, gear selection and brake force,” but also provides a recording of the driver’s point of view as well as recording noises made inside the car. As journalist Jaclyn Trop reports for the New York Times, “Drivers can barely make a left turn, put on their seatbelts or push 80 miles an hour without their actions somehow, somewhere being tracked or recorded.” Indeed, as Jim Farley, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Ford Motor Company all but admitted, corporations and government officials already have a pretty good sense of where you are at all times: “We know everyone who breaks the law, we know when you’re doing it. We have GPS in your car, so we know what you’re doing.”

#2 A new Michigan law will ban thousands of preppers and small farmers from owning farm animals.  What are they going to do next?  Ban us from growing our own food? #3 Have you ever collected anything?  If so, the FBI might swoop in and grab your collection someday even if you have not committed a crime.  If you think that this sounds crazy, you should consider what happened to a man named Don Miller recently

FBI agents Wednesday seized “thousands” of cultural artifacts, including American Indian items, from the private collection of a 91-year-old man who had acquired them over the past eight decades. An FBI command vehicle and several tents were spotted at the property in rural Waldron, about 35 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

The FBI did not have any evidence that a crime had been committed prior to seizing the collection, and Mr. Miller has not been arrested or charged with any crime.  The FBI says that it is going to catalog the collection “to determine whether some of the items might be illegal to possess privately”…

The aim of the investigation is to determine what each artifact is, where it came from and how Miller obtained it, Jones said, to determine whether some of the items might be illegal to possess privately.

#4 A father of a 4-year-old girl has been told that he will no longer be allowed to send healthy homemade lunches with his daughter when she attends her pre-kindergarten program because they conflict with federal guidelines. #5 Do you watch television?  Well, if you have a newer television there is a very good chance that your television is watching you as well

In November, the British tech blogger Doctorbeet discovered that his new LG Smart TV was snooping on him. Every time he changed the channel, his activity was logged and transmitted unencrypted to LG. Doctorbeet checked the TV’s option screen and found that the setting “collection of watching info” was turned on by default. Being a techie, he turned it off, but it didn’t matter. The information continued to flow to the company anyway.

#6 A plan that is being proposed in Fairfax County, Virginia would ban “frequent and large gatherings at neighborhood homes“.  This would include parties, scout gatherings and home Bible studies. #7 At a public school in Florida, a 12-year-old boy has been banned from reading the Bible during “free reading time”…

A Florida schoolteacher humiliated a 12-year-old boy in front of an entire class after she caught him reading the Bible during free reading time. The teacher at Park Lakes Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale ordered Giovanni Rubeo to pick up the telephone on her desk and call his parents. As the other students watched, the teacher left a terse message on the family’s answering machine. “I noticed that he has a book—a religious book—in the classroom,” she said on the recording. “He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom.”

#8 In the USSA, a young child cannot even build a tree fort with his friends without the threat of being confronted by the police state.  Just consider what happened to one little fifth-grade boy down in Georgia a few weeks ago

A fifth-grader says he was terrified when a police officer pointed a gun at him and his friends while they built a tree fort. Omari Grant, 11, said he and his friends often play in a wooded area behind his home and were building a fort when a neighbor in the next subdivision called police to complain about what the boys were doing. But no one anticipated what Omari and his mother say happened next. “I guess the release of tension was like, ‘Mom, he had a gun in my face, Mommy. Mommy, he had a gun in my face,’” said Janice Baptiste, Omari’s mother.

The officer reportedly used very filthy language as he pointed his gun at the boys, and he forced them to get out of the tree and lay down on the ground

“I was thinking that I don’t want to be shot today, so I just listened to what they said,” Omari said. Omari said the officer holding his gun also used foul language and made him and his friends lay down on the ground. “I learned that they’re supposed to help you not make you feel scared to even come outside,” Omari said.

#9 People like to joke about “the eye in the sky”, but it is no joke.  Technology that was originally developed for “blanket surveillance” during the Iraq war is now returning home

Persistent Surveillance Systems has developed a surveillance camera on steroids. When attached to small aircraft, the 192-megapixel cameras record the patterns of the planetary life they fly over for hours at a time. According to the Washington Post, this will give the police and other customers a “time machine” they can simply rewind when they need it. Placed strategically at the highest points of any town or city, these cameras could provide the sort of blanket surveillance that’s hard to avoid. The inventor of the camera, a retired Air Force officer, helped create a similar system for the city of Fallujah, the site of two of the most violent battles of the U.S. occupation of Iraq. It’s just one example of how wartime surveillance technologies are returning home for “civilian use.”

#10 Have you ever purchased storable food?  If so, you should know that it is now considered to be “suspicious activity” in some areas of the country.  Just check out what is happening in New York state

1-866 SAFE NYS is part of Safeguard New York, an NY State counterterrorism program that uses promotional material to encourage citizens to report people for engaging in “suspicious activity….which makes them stand out from others”.

An accompanying letter provided by the state trooper listed such “suspicious activity” as the purchase of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), flashlights, weather proof ammunition, night vision equipment, match containers, or gas masks.

For even more examples like this, please see my previous article entitled “19 Signs That America Is Being Systematically Transformed Into A Giant Surveillance Grid“. Sadly, most Americans are totally oblivious to all of this. Most Americans are so addicted to entertainment and to their electronic devices that they have no idea what is going on in the real world. I came across the following video entitled “Look Up” on YouTube earlier today.  I think that it does a great job of showing what our obsession with our electronic devices is doing to us.  Watch it for yourself and see what you think…

  1. Dan Bauler says:

So we are being spied upon? Sure it sucks, but what can any of us do about it when most of the population hasn’t got a clue to how much danger our country is in?

About 6 weeks ago I stopped posting hoping to keep a low profile, when it occurred to me that “they” knew who I was and what my beliefs were.

So now I stopped being afraid, started using use my real name in my posts, and trust in God to protect me from the “terror that comes at night” (Psalm 91)

    God Bless you all,
    Dan Bauler (formerly Ghost)

    • Dan Bauler

So what do you suggest? That we all shut up about being illegally spied on so even less people have a clue about what is going on? We are trying to get the word out so we don’t have the problem of people not knowing what is going on, but sadly, we are preaching to the choir here and that’s why we need people to share this information.

As for using your real name, that’s a personal decision, but a lot of folks use a “handle” not because they are trying to hide from the NSA but because they don’t want their neighbors to know what they are doing, or to be targeted by thieves…

      • Dan Bauler says:

O.K. MD, no reason to be a grouch. I’m not suggesting anything, other than trusting in God to protect us.

      • recoveringidiot says:

        • Dan Bauler says:

When Stalin was head of the Soviet Union he would have one person arrested in the middle of the night in an apartment complex knowing that the other residents would “behave’ due to fear. i.e state terrorism.
All these wild stories about Cops/Drones and such is accomplishing the very same thing, is it not?

After 9/11 we were told to keep on-keeping on, or the Terrorists would win. So let us not allow these State Terrorists to win!

I say that we stand proud, use our real names, express our ideas OUT LOAD and hold fast to our 1st. Amendment Rights as free men and woman and to hell with whatever comes next!

          • Brendan says:

I thought you had typed when Satan was the head of the Soviet Union instead of Stalin.

      • Hunker-Down says:

It’s important to us to read what others are doing to prepare. That’s a big part of our learning curve. In return we post what we are stocking to prepare, as it may give others ideas they can use.

If my neighbors were aware of everything I posted here, I would have to use up most of our defensive ‘stuff’ just to protect what we have. OPSEC keeps them out of our business.

    • Dan, I agree. But it’s going to require a substantial minority of the population to embrace your philosophy before any real change is going to occur, and by then who knows what levels of surveillance “they” will have achieved.
I hope everyone will spend the 5 minutes to watch the “Look Up” video in this article. I haven’t seen it before, but it’s exactly what I’ve been preaching to ALL my family, friends, people on the street, and especially my nieces and nephews that seem to missing so much of what life has to offer to the young.

  2. It started in ’63 or ’64, when then Pres JFK signed a bill that gives the phone companies to have an extra wire on your phone line, so they don’t have to come into your house to bug it, just turn the power on to the “added” line.

I figured out a long time ago that “THEY” are watching us, but I think all we can do is be aware and complain to our Congresspeople……of course they are mostly millionaires and want the rest of us for slaves, and this might be the way the get that to happen.

    • Lewis Smith

Please elaborate a little more on that “extra wire”. I spent 30 years with the Telco and it still takes 2 wires. Less than that is pretty much magic.

      • Chuck Findlay says:

(Less than that is pretty much magic.) Or radio, as in cell phone.

And they definitely have surveillance on cell phones.

    • Encourager says:

I understand what you are talking about. We have used that extra line to be able to call our own phone number, wait a minute while a recording says “someone on your party line is trying to reach you.” The phone would ring and my husband would pick it up in the barn. We have never had a party line here.

  3. Hunker-Down says:

    Here is another example we will be imprisoned with unless we take action an become a pain in the butt of every on line vendor;

We all know the gubermint already is recording every byte we type online.
There are articles announcing the gubermints move that will require us to have an “Internet Driver’s License” in the near future.

I wanted to send a letter to Amazon telling them that I will not be purchasing anything from them at the point in time when such a requirement is demanded of us. Amazon seems to have a communication wall around it: I can’t find where anyone has been able to write to them except an ‘open letter’ posted on an individual web site addressed to the ‘world’, not directly to anyone at Amazon. If you know how, please let us know.

I would like to contact every on line vendor we have ever purchased from, and let them know they will lose us as a customer the day the license requirement goes into effect.

I’m sending an email to our congress persons, letting them know the same. OTOH, maybe they would push for the license, thinking we would be limited to local, in-state purchases. This will make life harder for us as consumers but the gubermint is not going to stick another procto-scope up my you-know-what.

If we don’t push back we will lose the internet as we know it. If someone knows of an online database of ‘vendor email contact’, please let us know.

  4. j.r. guerra in s. tx. says:

#9 – living down along the Mexico – Texas border, aerostats (i.e. blimps) survelliance units have been in use for many years, tracking drug traffic flights into the U.S. In very recent years, this technology was used in Middle East as survelliance. This is now being used down here in our area as well, increasing numbers quite a bit. A local recent news story about them.

Claims are to track illegal traffic on land – but aren’t we on land too ?

  5. Patriot Farmer says:

Every day there are more and more examples of government eroding the liberty of its citizens. Hundreds of examples of police harassing, threatening, imprisoning and killing innocent people. And everyday new taxes, regulations, and restrictions are place on us to control every aspect of our lives. This country has lost it’s way and I am not confident at all that it will recover.

  6. We need to get more programmers and hackers fighting back against these policies and practices, hiding from it isn’t the answer, corrupting the data collection and disabling the gps signals, surveillance, smart devices and other data gathering techniques is. When the Church first failed to stop winter solistice (pagan celebrations) activities, they then changed their tactics to hijack and convince people that the winter celebration was about the birth of Jesus Christ. That’s what we need to do with the data collection, corrupt it, send the swat teams to politicians addresses and corrupt business heads addresses. Have their homes broken into in the middle of the night and their family members murdered by the militarized police of different regulatory agencies. A warrant should be served in daylight with a knock and all courtesy, with the only exception being extreme proven violence situations. Lawyers should be called and no barging in should ever be allowed, no seizure of property without due process and a requirement that property get returned if it is not evidence of a crime. The way to fight back is to turn the militarized forces against the people who have been creating these corruptions and abuses of power. The creations don’t know who their masters are in most cases so we need to turn them against their masters.

    • One of my favorite books is The Devil’s Advocate by Taylor Caldwell. It’s out of print and very difficult & expensive to get. Long story made short, the farmers were one of the few elite groups given special privileges. To help bring down the totalitarian system, the hero (and then the idea spread to others of the national patriot group) made the farmers feel the pinch by whacking away at their privileges. They didn’t like it and things started going downhill for the ptb.

Currently, let’s note that many students at Rutgers now po’d that the 100-strong lefty bunch prompted by their professors prevented Rice from speaking. Lefties get very upset when they get smacked down, so sit back and watch how these things play out. It’s most amusing when they have a duh moment.

  7. Donna in MN says:

So relieved I moved to the wilderness in an evergreen forest, don’t have a cell phone, use an old computer with no camera, have an old truck, and an older model TV. Not because I am afraid of what they may see… many times the sky got mooned as I took a whiz outside, and that’s too much information.

    • Rider of Rohan says:

LOL. I like the back porch for other reasons than just sitting, myself.

  8. madison says:

I cant stand how we are letting people do this. if my right to privacy or other rights are being violated, I will rebel. I`ll tear out that blackbox or whatever is in my car if I ever get a new car that has one, and no one can tell me I cant. its my car for Christ sake! it doesn’t affects how the car functions so it shouldn’t be required. I cant do it alone. everyone has to go against this crap. we can control whats going on in the government if everyone cares enough. I just wish I could make everyone care. I tend to forget about all this because for all I know, its not happening in my area.

    • Rider of Rohan says:

I feel the same way. But if I can’t, then I will just buy old vehicles. There are ways to get around these things. I have duct tape over my computer’s camera, etc.

      • Rider of Rohan

Live it up and trade up!
GM cars before 2005 with Onstar are analog and essentially won’t work with todays digital signals. You can disable some cars with Onstar tracking capabilities after 05 by unplugging the power and antennae leads. (The Onstar module location varies from vehicle to vehicle. Consult your favorite prepper mechanic) Depending on how new the car is, some Onstar modules go through the BCM and cannot be disabled without disabling the car. This won’t help during an EMP but then Onstar won’t work anyway 🙂

  9. Harry………….then why does all telephone wire have four wires???????????

    • Dog Log says:

Four wires is two pair, or two lines. Newer cable is color coded with like colors on each pair.

  10. Donna in MN……….. I also am in MN, way up extreme Northeast….I know no others like us…..you can get my email from MD. if you’d like.

  11. Nancy V. says:

    Well-researched article and very timely.

I have talked with so many people recently who say they don’t care that our country has become an oligarchy, or that it barely resembles a democracy or a republic. They say that even if our country does become totalitarian or communist, nothing in their lives will change personally, and the poor would be better off.

Yes, that is usually when my brain explodes.

They do not understand that in such a country, public dissent is not tolerated, there is no privacy, no individual rights, no voice, no self-defense and no private ownership of property or resources.

Sometimes, I think I am wasting my breath talking to such people. But I find myself doing it anyway. Deep down, I know that it is how real change occurs – one step (or person) at a time.

True, we may not be able to change all of the future, but we can change some aspects of it. If we do not try, then we have given up. I am just not willing to do that.

I believe that we can encourage other people to increase their critical thinking, become more aware, independent and self-reliant. By doing so, we are showing them what our forefathers showed us: what it feels like to be free.

Freedom starts in the mind, and evolves outward.

  12. Lewis Smith says:

I too find myself talking to “sheep” and wondering why they cannot see what is going on. I am a product of the 60’s and have been waiting for “The Revolution” since then…..it just never happened. But somehow I think the time may be right. I do not own any firearms, but I am Viet Nam Vet and will do whatever I can. For the time being I will continue wasting my breath hoping to reach someone. My family is equally blinded by the gobmint. I am alone here except for my wife. Prepping for our three sons and one daughter-in-law and four grandchildren and hoping they can make it when TSHTF….they are 100 miles and two + hours away and prepared for nothing. I am collecting things for them in BOB’s and hope I am soon enough.

    • I’m just dying to tell my sister-in-law that she & her husband would have to give up their very expensive 2-BR rented apartment in a gated community because under Agenda 21, two retired persons shouldn’t be living in such a nice, huge place and that they’ll be kicked out and replaced by an extended family of 15 imported from a 3rd world country. Oh, and another family could certainly fit in the carpeted basement. And where would she & dh live? Why, possibly in a railroad layout tiny apartment somewhere in the Brooklyn area or maybe in a vacated apartment unit in a Title VIII complex.

    • Donna in MN says:

I gave up talking to my daughter about what’s coming because she doesn’t like hearing about it at all and she ends conversations about it. She makes 7 times more than I do and I am under the poverty level for income, so me prepping supplies for her is impossible except it can only be done in teaching her how to gather wild foods for “fun”.

Most of my extended family thinks I am wierd enough by living where I do, the way I do. Many family members support this regime that is destroying us and I got a death threat because I told the truth. I can’t talk about the bad economy and loss of freedoms to them anymore. I have been banned from my family cabin where I spent 6 decades every summer. I know how hard it can be to reach others who refuse to open their eyes and punish you if you try.

  13. Lewis, you’re doing the right thing. I too have sons who are not preparing and one that has maybe a month of supplies. Other family members are not preparing at all. They are clueless about what is going on in the world and find it unthinkable that their government would harm them in any deliberate way. The naivete is astounding. Yet these are not bad people at heart. They believe in earning their way through life and helping the less fortunate when they can. But they are unable to conceptualize the approaching disaster. The cold reality is that that responsibility lies on their shoulders. I for one will try to prepare for my immediate family and the extended family will have to fend for themselves. They’ll get help from me only if it doesn’t hurt my kids and grandkids.

I try to remind my kids that the present is the future they planed for, or failed to plan for, in the past and that the future is as much a part of their life as the present and what they plan for today will bear heavily on what their tomorrow will look like.

    • Encourager says:

I will be forever thankful that it was my oldest son who got me prepping. The youngest son is now on board and even asked for supplies for his GHB for Christmas. His brother and I had fun with that as did his Dad.

  14. robert from mid michigan says:

i keep threatening the wife that as long as I sit in front of computer I am going to do it naked. seeing this old man that way should scare the hell out of anyone, wife complained that she doesn’t want to see it either so I havnt done it yet but some day I will.

they know who I am, they know what I do and that will scare the hell out of them so I don’t try and hide anymore. went for some months with out posting here for several reasons but I always come back.

I am who and what I am half of it they built and fostered so I would be of better service to them, they should also know I love and respect this country and will never forget the oath I took in defending it.

its still a great country we are just going through growing pains and if we do not go about correcting it in the fashion that was prescribed by our founding fathers then we have a choice to make we change as our founders did, or we bend over and take it. politically active and loud is legal if not welcomed but its a whole lot safer than the other alternative.

I know where I want to go when I die
to him and to no other I must attest when that day comes
I pray that I do not have to say I bent the knee for a man
because I feared for my life, for my life is his to do with as he wishes
I pray for the wisdom to see what he wants
the courage to do as he wishes
the strength to do as he wishes

    may god bless
stack it deep stack it high
pray we are the crazy ones
god knows I do not want to the smart one

  16. Nemoseto says:

easy fixes: don’t have a phone, walk or bike to a phone 10 miles or more from home when you have to make a call. don’t own a car, walk and bike and use “short cuts” traveling trails and rail road beds and such to cut overland between roads, better if you got a friend who needs gas money who will drive you around when needed for gas money. don’t watch a tv unless its secondhand dvds and antenna channels and powered by solar panels bought with cash. don’t have a computer worth anything, but an old used laptop never attach your name to it and walk or bike to a wifi hotspot 10 miles from home, turn off the antenna when you leave. wear a hat that obscures your head (like a big broad brim leather hat) never give your name to anyone, put take over the computers webcam (if it has one).

act like everyone and everything is spying on you (it helps if you escaped a very abusive past and your abusers keep stalking you, hidden = safe)

  17. ……….And the Bundy incident is showing that the people are starting to get tired of it …………

    • The problem with the Bundy thing is they drew out some of the militia people, they now know who they are & are keeping tabs on them & everybody they know. Opsec has been blown for sure on them.
Dont be surprised if most of them start to disappear, get arrested or found under mysterious circumstances, not breathing.

      • they keep fanning the fire …………they will get burned , remember , all it takes is a trigger to set off a shit storm that cant be stopped . The French revolution was triggered by angry mobs of women . The Russian revolution was a combination , of bad imperial policies with bad leadership on the war front , and poverty .

  18. Fenland Prepper says:

The UK has more surveillance cameras per person than any other european country. It is not possible to go any where and not be watched. Even the ones people put up themselves are usually wifi and they can be hacked / turned upon the owners.
Believe me when I say UK preppers are envious of the US wide open spaces……….. and its gun laws.

  19. Bwhntr59 says:

It is the slow and insidious nature of the pervasive and ongoing surveillance by private and government entities that has caught us napping, so to speak. So far I see no visionaries from either political party putting a halt to this. They both benefit from it. Orwells’ vision is coming true, and we are blindly letting it happen. It will take a Red Dawn type event to shake some sense into the populace.

Pray for wisdom and strength. We will need it.

  20. Tyranny is strong like an oak. It stands tall and proud against the massive winds of chaotic disasters, dominating the edge of the wetlands- until suddenly it doesn’t and their is only firewood left.
Freedom is a bed of reeds, bending as necessary flowing with the winds of disasters only to spring back, moving out of the shade of Tyranny even as they help its roots rot from below.
The disasters come, and the reeds mostly remain, the oak fallen- now how to burn the acorns so no new tyranny can regrow?
