For Sale-Junk land $1,000 per Acre
Where to find cheap land seems to have many scratching their heads with discouragement and more than a bit of confusion. This is one of the more frequent inquiry’s made by readers, several times per week I open my email and read words of discouragement from readers who’ve been unable to find land in their price range, most seem ready to give up on idea, seeking my advice as a last resort.
The first consideration is where do you want to go? Would you be better off packing up and moving cross-country or simply staying where you are? In my case staying put seemed to be the most logical option.
After all I was already in a rural area with friends and family nearby, that would form a ready-made survival group or network. Moving to a new place and becoming one with the community takes, time. You will be an outsider, which is not a favorable position to be in during hard times.
Junk land is useless property for most purposes, so expect less than perfect. Remote and off the power grid, roads likely to be rough and unattended and maybe accessible only by four-wheel drive. Do not look for timber or other resources, expect land that has been strip mined, clear-cut or barren desert. You will need to do a lot of work to improve the property to the point of livability.
I found my land by placing an ad in the local newspaper, stating what I was looking for, and the price I could afford to pay. This can be an effective tactic, but may take time before you find what you are looking for.
My ad read :
Looking for cheap land to use as campsite / weekend retreat. Must be secluded, electricity and water availability desirable but not required. Two / Five acres – no more than $1,000 per acre.
After running the ad continuously for over six months and looking at several property’s not fitting my, needs or price, (you will get calls from those trying to sell you more expensive dirt) I found what I was looking for. It needed a lot of work but I loved the place, and the price was one I could afford without going to the bank.
Anther tactic that could work is going to the local realty office and telling them what you are looking for. Most are only interested in selling more expensive real estate to increase their profit margin, but who knows you could get lucky.
If you’ve looked on eBay, you’ve likely noticed that there is a category specifically for vacant land. And surprisingly, there are hundreds of listings each day. Be wary of scams here, move slowly and ask many questions. Check out the sellers feedback and see what other buyers have said about their transactions with the seller.
I am no expert in this area, certainly there are others who know much more than I do about realty and property matters, but this should be enough to get you started off in the right direction.
That is enough of me talking – What are your ideas on finding junk land and relocation?

I got so-called junk land on eBay. Turned out to be the most beautiful place in the world. It was in the Missouri Ozarks. The water there is the most crystal clear I've ever seen. I no longer have that piece, but I'll be buying more land there in the future. Echo the recommendation to check the seller's feedback first. I had no problems, but it doesn't mean there may be scams out there.
