Survival Guns – I Want To Know What You Think?

I want to know what you think. Choosing survival guns is a popular topic and we all have our preferences. Personally I don’t think there is a “best” survival gun, only a number of choices suited for each individual task.

I gave up on the one gun concept long ago. There is no – one do everything weapon – the well-rounded survivor needs a small battery of weapons to adequately perform the task at hand – and everyone has their own idea of what that group of weapons should consist of.
I want to hear about your choices – you don’t even have to own all the firearms listed, I just want to know what you think the perfect, all around, do it all, survival battery would consist of.
I’ll Start Things Off With My Dream Arsenal.
1. Springfield M1A-7.62×51mm/.308
2. Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle .223
3. Remington 700 or Winchester Model 70-.308
4. Remington 870 or Mossberg 500-12ga with Spare Riot Barrel
5. Ruger 10/22 – .22 LR
6. Ruger MkI, MkII, or MkIII-.22 LR Pistol
7. Springfield XD9 – 9mm Pistol
8. Taurus CIA .38spl Revolver
9. Savage Model 10ML-II 50 caliber Muzzleloading Rifle

I always get a laugh out of people who brag online about the guns they own in this age of Obama, Pelosi, and Echelon/Carnivore. Why not just send a post card listing your armory to the Dept. of Homeland Security. I own no guns. Period.

I think you misunderstood – this post wasn't a meant to be a list of guns owned, but a fantasy list of what each individual poster thought would make up the "perfect" arsenal for survival purposes.

I absolutely agree with the Mini-14. I like it with the classic wood stock.

Remember any gun is worthless the minute you run out of ammo for it. I would rather settle on three guns, get three each, thna have 20 each for a specific job. And lots and lots of bullets. Bullets may become the new currancy.

A lot to be said for at least one black powder rifle. You can make powder and bullets at home.

OK HERE'S THE REAL DEAL. IF YOU WANT TO REALLY KNOW WHAT TO HAVE, READ TAPPAN'S SURVIVAL BOOK OR THE SURVIVAL ARMORY. THESE PLAINLY EXPLAIN THE REASONS WHY YOU NEED ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
    1. MILITARY TYPE SEMI AUTO RIFLE. THIS WILL COVER MULTIPLE NEEDS.
    2. SEMI AUTO PISTOL IN MILITARY CALIBER. ONCE AGAIN VERSATILITY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, READ THE BOOK.
    3. 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN, PUMP OR SEMI AUTO. ENOUGH SAID.
    4. SEMI AUTO RIMFIRE RIFLE IN 22LR.
    5. SEMI AUTO RIMFIRE PISTOL IN 22LR.

THESE FIVE WEAPONS WILL COVER ALMOST 100% OF YOUR SURVIVAL NEEDS FROM HUNTING TO SELF DEFENSE TO PLINKING. REMEMBER TO GET PLENTY OF MAGAZINES AND AMMO.

    Savage 110 Bolt .308
12 Gauge Shotgun, I don't know enough about shotguns to recommend a particular shotgun.
    Springfield XD9
Browning Buckmark .22 (great little pistol)
    Henry .22
