Review: Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope

A few months ago I decided to add a rifle scope atop my Bulgarian AK-74. After extensive shooting and accuracy testing the rifle and the it’s 5.45×39mm cartridge, have proven to be significantly more accurate and flat shooting than my other AK’s chambered in 7.62X39.
By adding an optical site, I could extort all the accuracy available from this platform. I wanted something compact and preferably with mil-dot illuminated reticle – for under $75.
After some research, I selected the Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope. According to the description it was exactly what I was looking for, and at $45.70 within my budget.
I placed my order through Amazon and after a four-day wait, the Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope arrived in the mail. When I opened the package the first thing, I noticed was the weight and quality workmanship.
At only 7.7 inches in length, weight is an impressive 10.8 ounces, with fit and finish being comparable to optics selling for considerably more. The Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope comes with built-in integral sunshade, flip-open lens covers and rings.
I was still sitting in front of the post office but couldn’t resist holding the rifle scope up to my eye while looking at distant objects. The optics were clear and crisp with no blurs around the edge of vision and the cross hairs well defined.
I’m sure those passing by were wondering what I was doing, but I didn’t care, I was in a world of my own. I couldn’t wait to mount the scope to rifle for further testing, so I was out of the parking-lot pretty quickly.
I used the UTG 978AK-74 Scope mount quick detachable double rail side mount to mount the scope to the rifle. This is a great product and highly recommended from here. The Mount is solid with no movement or play whatsoever and is quick and easy to remove and mount as needed.
The downside to the UTG 978 quick detachable mount is that when mounted it sets low against the receiver cover, preventing the use of the iron sights. This isn’t a big deal because I leave the scope off most of the time and remounting when needed.
Getting back to the Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot ScopeAK-74 scope – after mounting, I needed to get it adjusted and on target. I started out at 25 yards to see how far-off center and amount of adjustment needed. The first shots were about 9 inches low and 6 inches right of center.
After making the necessary adjustments (1/4-inch at 100 yards) at 25 yards I moved to the 100 yard mark for more testing and adjustment if needed. At 100 yards bullet impact was center and about 1 inch high – perfect.
The illuminated reticle, has both green and red setting and is incremented for adjusting brightness of both. Power for illumination is provided by one CR2032 3V batteryAK-74 Scope battery (2 included). I’m still using the first battery and it’s just as bright now, as it was the first day.
The Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot Scope offers 4X magnification, 28-foot field-of-view at 100 yards and is parallax adjusted at 100 yards.
The rifle scope is advertised as a CQB sight. In my opinion the need to align your eye with the reticle and focus on the target, isn’t fast enough for CQB purposes (like building search and clearing) for which this scope is advertised, but it is perfectly adequate for most other needs.
Another thing I noticed was that the 3.5-inches of eye relief advertised is in reality is more like 2 inches. When mounting to most rifles you’ll need to push the scope as far to the rear as possible to assume a proper shooting position. However with the shorter stock found on most AK variants it is just about perfect.
The Tactedge 4X32 Mini CQB TS Mil-Dot ScopeAK-74 Scope is a great product and for the price you would be hard pressed to do better. If you’re an AK owner this scope and mount  would be an excellent addition.

I think you did a good thing on the scope. I just put a M-30 1×4x24 on one of my .223's. This also is a good scope, the glass was really clear, duplex, with lighted center or black center went turned off.

    I also put a 4×12x40 on a bull barrel .22.

By the looks of the scope it has a fast focus eyepiece. If so sometime these can be adjusted to get a little more eye relief. Also it may help with acquiring the target faster. Just an observation.

It's great that the UTG mount is working for you. On my Saiga 223, I can't get it to stop jiggling no matter how tight I make it.

    Mockum,

I've only used the one mount and it seems to be a top quality item – but then it is only one example in the product line.

Have you used only the one mount or do you have experience several of these?

Good to see you using an illuminated recticle for low light situations. I would hate to see you miss or miss your big chance because you can't see the cross hairs. I use these on all my hunting weapons for the same reason. Good luck and good shooting.

    I thought the AK74 was 5.56 x 39mm. The 5.56×45 is the US round.

I may have been mistaken. Wikipedia says 5.45×39 for an AK74.

Good review. It's nice to see something affordable being reviewed. Not everyone is interested in 500 yd bench shooting or $1000 Trijicons. Keep up the good work.

I think you overpaid for the product. You should check out camelcamelcamel.com The scope you linked to with your refer tag was $43.91 last month.

Cool. That looks like a Centerpoint scope I've seen at WalMart, I need to compare it to that and save shipping cost. Centerpoints look a lot like the Leapers scope line, which are surprisingly good in their latest incarnations. I have a few of them on spring piston air rifles.

Good review M.D. I've recently had a reader ask for recommendations for an inexpensive scope, so I referred him to this post.

I'm looking for a scope for my Ruger 10/22. Would this make a good scope for a .22 & what kind of mounting system would you use to mount it to the 10/22?

Go for the Tactedge 4×32. It comes with Weaver/Picatinny rings that will clamp right onto the top of your Ruger’s receiver.

    MD,

If you can get that Bulgarian AK-74 to hit the mark repeatedly, then it sounds like a good deal. However, I wouldn't consider a telescopic scope for CQB. I opted for a Williams Firesight on my Romanian AK vs. optics for their ruggedness. Anything but those standard military sights! Sounds like your QD mount will let you add the optics when needed. Shoot well.

NO WAY!!!! Don't buy cheap scopes! EVER! If you can't afford a quality scope/optic stick with iron sights. Please "affordable survivalism" gurus stop giving dangerous advice. Look, if you have recently started preparations, IT IS TOO LATE. Most likely only multigenerational survival groups will be the only ones with a slight chance of making it. Was your grandfather an off the grid survivalist? The curtian has already dropped. PLEASE PLEASE stop giving people hope where there is none.

Don't buy the cheap Chinease crap. Do your homework and check out the reviews on the internet gun sites. I got a $40 red dot and put it on my AK 47 and it worked great for 5 rounds. Then I rapid fired 5 rounds and the red dot was toast.

I also believe in “not scimping on optics”. They are well worth the price, as long as one is not forced to scimp on everything else in life during our present depression. In my humble opinion, the Tactedge/Leapers/UTG 4×32 is a pretty decent piece of glass, especially when compared to the alternative-Russian iron sights. Not all of us have teenage eyes these days. I too was producing 100m- 10in groups with irons at best. That little scope cut those groups down to 2inches- in all lights and shooting positions. I’ve purposely abusedly it. Being mounted on a UTG 978, I’ve mounted and dismounted the rig perhaps 100 times. It as returned to zero approximately each time. I’ve been caught in the rain quite a few times here in NW Florida. No leaks. No fog. It’s been bounced around in the back of pickup a lot. No problems so far. CQB it is not. If you need open sights in a hurry, get the QD mount. 2 seconds and it’s off. For the money, it can’t be beat. (ACOG $!000+)! Pure arrogance. Trust me.

I would like to retract my glowing recommendation of the Tactedge 4×32. Maybe it was just that particular scope. Maybe I didn’t coddle it enough. The elevation mechanism went completely TU. Very disappointing. Good thing I wasn’t betting my or someone elses life on it. I got it on Amazon and haven’t received a refund yet. I was so distraught, I purchased a Barska 1×30 red-dot in the meantime. Minute-of -head at 100m with an AK…good enough for me. I’ll get to you if this one blows up.
