And Of Course Some Are Shouting Racism…

Walmart is raising eyebrows after cutting the price of a black Barbie doll to nearly half of that of the doll’s white counterpart at one store and possibly others.

Political correctness is ruining this country!!! God forbid that anything is reported as 'fact' anymore, less we may offend someone. It is as simple as 'supply/demamd' when item A does not sell as fast or well as Item B, then guess what—-the price is lowered to rid or lower the inventory of such an item. Furthermore, who really cares!?!? Of course 'white' barbies are going to sell better then 'black' barbies, their are more white babies(unfortunately not for long)then black ones… grow up people…

Of course they are. That way more controls can be forced on us.

Supply and demand. Less black people as a percentage of the population = less demand for black dolls. More white people as a percentage of the population = more demand for white dolls. In order to sell more of an item in the face of lower demand requires a lower price. Simple economics. Nothing racist about it.

And if the 'black' barbies were priced HIGHER than the 'white' barbies the very same people would still be complaining of racism. It would be something like 'you see? typical overcharing of the black community'.

Maybe they should come out with the Black Barbie in an orange prison jumpsuit or the ACLU Black Barbie – that'll probably sell like hotcakes!

What a bunch of hooey about a bunch of silly plastic dolls.

I would love to hear what Dave Chappelle had to say about this …

Here's an interesting true story… at least I think it's interesting …

I grew up in a normal(?) middle class suburban Los Angeles (Torrance) neighborhood. My next door neighbor, Ted Gin worked for Mattel Toys in Redondo Beach and was the chief designer of the Barbie Doll. We saw all of the different prototypes he created – my dad being a highly educated engineer loved discussing designs about anything … anyway,

True fact – the face of the doll was ultimately modeled after Ted's daughter, Heidi who was of course, like the parents, Chinese & fresh from San Francisco.

Now being the 60's, they could not have an Asian Barbie or as Ted put it – a slant eyed doll, but did Ted or his wife every complain? Wasn't even a thought. By the way, they called themselves Chinese not Asians!

What have we come to in this country fighting these types of pointless battles. The S Should HTF so we can go back to square one!

You are absolutely right. The only way to get this thing back on track is to reboot. We have to go back and restart. When people can't feed their kids and are getting shot at, maybe they won't be quite so concerned about the price of different colored Barbie dolls.

Black "Bubba" Ken March 11, 2010 at 11:37 PM

Thanks Anon 3/11 @ 9:43 am – reboot is probably the fastest answer to our problems and get rid of this ObamaNation.

MD, that's it – a new product to market!!! You need to come out with a "Camo Barbie" complete with face paint, jack boots & a high & tight haircut then nobody can call racism!

I guess my biggest fear would then be realized – which of your readers would really buy her …

So, when you say nearly half, is it closer to three fifths?

You know, just wondering

Sunshine March 12, 2010 at 3:48 AM

Oh how peaceful our lives would be if all of our worries were this trivial. The scary part of this story is that our country is going down the toilet, and people have nothing better to do than complain about Barbie Dolls. So sad…

I have worked in retail most of my life, and have sold african-american Angels, and black Santa Clauses, and even a black Jesus, and I can tell you "african-american" ANYTHING nevers sells as well as Caucasian counterparts. It seems every other week the term for what they call themselves changes, "black", "colored", "African-American", "people of color"…if they can't decide on what to be called how are we to deal with that. As I have always said.."Blacks are the last truely predjudice people."

I live just outside Detroit….so don't get me started……but a local business man referred to the rebuilding of Detroit as follows….." They figured it out in Berlin, they figured it out in Hiroshima, so we can figure it out in Detroit." Sounds like rebooting is a good idea, even to people who wouldn't survive it.

Why is this even in the Survivalist Blog? What does it have to do with Survival?

richard muszynski March 16, 2010 at 9:43 AM

greetings. if something offends the largest minority in America of course we have to listen to it. I am Polish. I think that i belong to a smaller minority so what i think doesn’t count. you have to be part of a major segment of the population to have the rights of a minority? screwy country we are supporting is it not.

WITWCT March 17, 2010 at 7:04 AM

To richard muszynski -

Offend the largest minority?

I thought controversy was over a black Barbie not a pregnant Latina Barbie pushing a stroller with 4 other kids under the age of 6 in tow getting on the city bus.

Reminds me of some colege had a affirmative action bake sale. If you were white you paid a dollar for a brownie or cookie. If you were african american it would be 75 cants. if you were hispanic it cost as much as a visit to the emergency room(free). That stunt was put on by the colleg republican club. Steve
