The Big Question: Are You Better Than Yesterday?

by M.D. Creekmore on January 20, 2010

Big goals? Learn to think small. (Photo: H. Koppdelaney)

Many of us have a hard time getting and staying motivated. As time goes on, we lose focus of our preparedness goals or are sidetracked  by other unrelated issues.

Life happens. But at the same time so does disaster. We need to stay focused and strive to become better prepared today than yesterday – everyday.

What works for me
First make a list of the preps / survival goals you would like to get done – this can be anything from adding more storage foods to the larder, more ammo to the cache, learning a new skill or anything really. Just stay focused on survival and emergency preparedness.
It’s OK if you have a long list. Now, for each item on the list, think about what you can do today – get it done and you will be better prepared than yesterday.

Tomorrow, look at your list again. Repeat. Do this every day, checking off each item as it is completed.

When you complete all the goals on your list, make a new one and repeat.
Are you better prepared today than yesterday? What can you do today, so you are better prepared tomorrow?

Make a list. Go over your list every morning, try to complete at least one preparedness goal everyday. Complete. Make a new list. Repeat.

How do you stay motivated?

I love this post. Prepping is a huge task. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Good luck and Godspeed.

How do I stay motivated? Every night, before I go to bed, I put my son to bed. He trusts me 100% and relies on me 100%. Every night, before I fall asleep, I kiss my wife good night – she trusts me 100% and relies on me 100%.

It is my responsibility to be prepared and help them be prepared in the event I'm not there to get them through.

I can't store a lifetime of food & water, but I can help them prepare mentally and psychologically, as well as have an action plan.

That is how I stay motivated.

When I get down I turn on CNN or MSNBC and listen to the liberal BS for a few minutes until my stomach turns. Then I'm right back to the lists. If those liberals don't motivate you to prepare nothing will. Nothing motivates me more then to see Uncle Sugar's smiling face and his forked tongue. It's coming,we better be ready.

This is a great post. My motivation like Dustin comes from loving my children I could not stand to see them starve or be put in danger. I will do everything I can to see that it don't happen. Thank you M.D. Creekmore for a great blog and a great service to the survival community.

Nightshift here…I've been way absent. moved out to the country. 14 miles from the nearest gas station. Put a single wide on 8.6 acres and am closing on 13+ next door. 22 acres woods with a spring in the valley, 20 acres wooded. Anyway, been busy.

Howdy M.D. and Happy New Year. I once read that 79% of all people who make New Year's Resolutions break them by January 20 or 21. So….I figure I'll wait until AFTER these dates to begin mine then I'll be in the successful 21%!!! LOL

Nightshift,

I was wondering where you had gotten off to – sounds like you have been busy. Good job.

I had 3 children. They died in an accident. if you can survive that you can survive anything. never take your family for granted. Never leave the house without saying I love you.

I get motivation in seeing the results of my efforts. My personal debt is down about half of what it was 3 years ago. My food stocks are better than ever, I am a much better gardner than I was 5 years ago, my health is better and my weight is down. I also set reasonable goals that I can achieve in preparedness.

Better to get and hide your food NOW! The bible says that there's coming a time when no man will be able to work. That a mark (a chip made by Digital Angel, Destron Fearing and others) that will have to be taken by all the world's inhabitants to buy or sell but I already know that food and water control are what is used upon people's of other nations. Check out some of the world's top Super Computers, they hold so much information that it's almost mind-boggling and being that the chip can be read and those things are linked into computers… You know, last year when the president offered the free relocation program to Americans, it made me think of the Natzis and how they had a program just like that for the Jews. Wait a minute! Doesn't it seem like Deja Vu or something???? :/ I guess even our American waterways, creeks, streams, lakes and so forth are going to be under control by foreigners. Bottled water is so gooooood when you can buy one. Motivation? I'm motivated…knowing what's about to happen. No money, no way to work, no nothing. Hmmm…sounds like the president really has been changing things and he promised that he would. :) Is it just me or does sum-tin smell fishy 'round 'ere?
