The new year is here and I’ve been chatting with a lot of survivalists over the last few weeks, most have big plans for the new year. Many feel time is running out and plan to kick their preps into overdrive.
How about you? Do You Have Any Preparedness New Years Resolutions for 2010?
We would love to hear your thoughts on what you’ll be doing and how you’re planning, to increase your preparedness level into 2010 and beyond?
My plans are coming along nicely – I intend to get things done quickly, as I too think, time is running out.
I’m planning to expand my food storage (aff) to the ten year mark, build another small root cellar, expand my garden come spring and a lot more.

GETTING PHYSICALLY FIT,IMPROVING THE FOOD SUPPLY BY HALF AND HOPING TO GET MY FAMILY INTO THE ROUTINE OF PREPPING.THAT LAST ONE WILL BE MY TOUGHESS CHALLENGE.FROM JAY IN NC
My new years resolution was to get started with planning, not for a five or ten year survival stint, but to survive several weeks of civil "unrest" which I think is increasingly likely as our country pulls itself apart. Stocking up on canned goods, ammunition and water for a month and having everything I (conceivably) need to barricade myself and maybe a few friends against the bad guys for a few weeks is enough prep for me.
I have 20 goals for this year. Already met one of them. Thinking about making another.
as a suburbanite,(with plans) my biggest(problem)question is how do I protect my supplies from destruction from well, anything, fire flood the tree next door from crashing into the garage.
Anyway I would like to continue to improve the food stash and to further my knowledge on just about everything. Thanks for the blog, learning a lot
I plan to concentrate paying down credit card debt while continuing to add to the food cache a little at a time.
Being an "older" woman….I have no plans to get fit…I have breathing problems that put a stop to that….however, I do plan on learning more about a water filter system…that I can work with….expanding my cooking options…(have already been trying to stockpile med med's..( Insurance co's hold you down) figures) more ammo, and more food supplies….have pleanty….but now am dehydrating, making my own bread every day…..the learning about what water filtration system will work for me is my biggest problem….no one to ask…live in mountains with great well….but cannot be lugging any weight…storing water outside in winter here is not going to happen to cold any reasonable help and or books to read would be greatly appreciated!
I've been distracted from preps for the last several weeks due to illness, holidays (I have little children) and getting ready for DH to ship out to Afghanistan next weekend. Once I get him on the plane I plan to get back on track and focus on preps. This week we will be organizing our preps on hand and talking over plans for this coming years income (great thing about shipping out – NO TAXES!! It's like an instant pay raise!)
I plan to diversify my farm animals by possibly adding a couple of goats and rabbits to go along with the dairy cow, steers, and chickens, plant a larger garden, plant some areas of grain to at least feed the livestock. Actually get into shape to deal with everything! Buy a water filter. We have water close by, but it definitely needs to be filtered. Really need to write this down!
Expanding my garden, adding another water barrel to gutters, getting food storage up to 6 months, get second job, instill survival instincts into my kids, get "back home" bags in each car, lose another 10 pounds.
That will keep me going a while!
I am active duty military and that makes preps difficult. I intend this year to turn my back yard into about 1/4 acre of raised bed gardens my yard is all clay (I actually made and fired a pot with the soil) and has poor drainage. Things being what they are, a series of raised beds is about my only option. If I'm lucky I will get two crops. Let the canning begin!
I plan on getting more ammo and burying it in various places that way my eggs are not all in one basket. Also placing some food and water this way wouldn't be a bad idea either. My home front is in good order but I need to work on backup plans just in case I have to bug out.
I plan to:
Build a cabin in the woods and plant small scattered gardens throughout the woods.
Learn how to can now that I got a canner for Christmas.
To continue adding to food and water storage.
To add to medical and personal supplies.
To continue educating myself on how to make things like soap, candles etc.
More …223…308…762×39…moving up to 10.000
rounds per rifle. working on garden…
One good resolution is to go back and read or re-read as many older posts on your blog as possible. There is a wealth of information and advice, including the comments, that will help me in being more fully prepared.
I must also admit that, inasmuch as your blog has a heavy emphasis on guns and ammo, this is probably my weakest aspect of survival. I'm armed, but they're all long guns. Therefore, there probably isn't a better place to ask for help in my second resolution: To acquire a handgun that won't break my bank account, is easy to use, is reliable, and that ammo for it can easily be found. I will re-read your older posts for what you have to say on this. I'm sure all who read your post have their own preferences. The comments with reasons for those preferences will help me enormously.
Thanks for the best survival blog. (W)
1) Get my brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
2) Move away from the CITY (and my crazy ex-wife).
3) Find a new place with some space/land.
4) Spend more time with the folks, help them get their preps. in order and get a garden going.
5) Rebuild the preps. that the ex took.
6) Retain my level of physical fitness and look to improve it whenever possible.
I will be adding a number of new raised beds, more blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Will be working with daugher and son-in-law to start raising chickens for eggs and meat. Hope to add a greenhouse to extend growing season and maybe add a little heat to the house during the winter (-32 this morning). Will be adding a woodstove for backup heat. Adding to food and water storage. Buying a generator.
I also want to increase my food storage – have about one month's supply now. Also want to learn how to make jam – we have a citrus tree in the yard that produces fruit almost all year round – most of it is wasted. It would make great jam – lot's of vitamin C. Am going to take boxing lessons to help stay in shape. My Mom used to make jam and it was way better than store bought. She is visiting next month and I'm going to ask her to teach me.
My 2010 Prep Goals are: Increase long term food storage from 1 year worth for 2 adults to 1.5 years. Learn how to weld. Take advanced first aid course (EMT or Wilderness First Aid}. Continue to stay out of debt. Teach/expand CERT training programs in my community. Meet and befriend at least three new prepardness minded individuals in my area. Become more politically active at the local level.
Just a few of my goals/resolutions for 2010
1. Paying down my debt
2. Spend more time at the range
3. Increase my ammo stores
4. Increase my food stores to a 1 year supply
5. Planting 10 new fruit trees and increase the size of my garden
6. Re-forest several acres of my property
7. Increase my production of turkeys ans chickens this year.
I am starting the new year by challenging myself to only eat from the pantry and food storage for the month of January. A test to see if what I have prepared is sufficient.
Other goals include expanding the garden boxes, more raspberries, reduce the amount of grass in the back yard by 1/3 and grow food instead, get 4 chickens, create a stream of income allowing me to stay home. I blog about all of these things at htpp://frugalcanning.blogspot.com
Expand my ammo, build a chicken coop, all ready have sold all exess eggs and chickens that I will have. I mention it once and the person agreed to buy all excess. Will put in double amount of chickens that I was going to do. Use money for other preps.
PREPARE FOR THE WORSE AND PRAY FOR THE BEST
Most of my preps are good with the exception of cash. I simply don't have enough of it. So my primary goal is to set aside $2,500 in cash. I've lost about 15 pounds in the last 3 months and want to lose another 20. If i achieve the $2500 early i will expand it to twice that. Baby steps…
