Bailout Money Well Spent – GM to “Invest” 500 Million In MEXICO Plant.
Food stamp use hit record 40.8 Million in May – The number of Americans who are receiving food stamps rose to a record 40.8 million in May as the jobless rate hovered near a 27-year high, the government reports.
A must read: 40 Statistics That Reveal The Truth About The U.S. Economy - Most Americans still appear to be operating under the delusion that the “recession” will soon pass and that things will get back to “normal” very soon. Unfortunately, that is not anywhere close to the truth. What we are now witnessing are the early stages of the complete and total breakdown of the U.S. economic system.
Russia to halt wheat export – look for food prices to rise substantially. Don’t you wish you had stocked up while prices were lower?

Regarding Russia putting their people before profit (wasn’t that originally a virtue of the US, putting our people first , while the USSR willingly let their people starve while their Government got rich? Hmmmm. But I digress)…
Nope, Creekmore, I didn’t stock up on wheat while it was cheap, and I didn’t do it intentionally (ooooo, them’s fightin’ words) ;) Instead, a couple of years ago, I looked at what grain products I was able to grow where I live, in case TSHTF. Frankly, wheat won’t grow here. It is too wet, both rain and humidity. Wheat would rot before harvest. But corn grows very well here (otherwise KY wouldn’t be so famous for its Whiskey). So I decided to base my family’s diet on corn, rather than wheat.
The Standard American Diet is overly based on wheat products. Just try to go for a day not eating wheat! I took me almost 2 years to completely re-vamp my (personal, hand-written) cookbook to exclude wheat, and include recipes that are made mainly or solely from crops grown here on my farm. I make an exception for the few recipes that we enjoy ( biscuits and gravy, for example) that really can’t be made without flour. But one 5# bag of flour lasts us months.
My 2 cents: Base your diet on what grows in your area. If you live in Iowa, heck yeah, stock up on wheat. But if you live in an area where wheat won’t grow, change your diet.
And if I may add one more comment, about the Cop who shot the dog: If he reserves the right to shoot anything he regards as “aggressive”, I say we the people reserve the same right. One of the first things the North did when overrunning the South was to shoot the dogs. Seems to me, that whole skirmish was about States rights vs. Federal Gov’t Power…History repeats, people, history repeats.
Great thoughts on the wheat Cathrine. The mere fact you have a plan is awsome in itself!
“They” are sticking bubble gum in the leaks on the dam, telling us things are getting better, while letting more and more water into the reservoir behind it. We are all downstream! Time to start running!
Nice timing. I was in a meeting last evening with some individuals associated with our current foreclosure market on a national platform (a couple of ex Wall Street MBA’s and others). The good news & bad news is we are only 1/2 of the way through the cycle (started in 2007). However, the commercial real estate sector which directly relates to consumer spending is in deep trouble with many, many billions in loans circling the drain.
Commercial real estate includes strip malls, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, motels and more. One mid-sized chain of motels (which shall remain nameless) cannot fully make employee payroll through revenue and the investor (owner) must protect the asset by infusing $400,000 per week to pay employees & keep the doors open and not allowing it to go “dark”.
The investor is worth over 20 billion with a staggering 25% of the portfolio in similar trouble. What’s 6.25 billion in losses when you have 13.75 billion in the pocket? The percentage is the number to focus on because it is similar across the board. These numbers are floating in unchartered waters.
I guess what Obama really meant was “change we can’t believe in”.
I’ve just pulled up my sleeves as the old timer’s used to say. I’m not going to get upset over Russia and what is going on there and I say this because if I don’t have bread, chips or other wheat-based products to eat for a year, I can always find other things to eat and as long as I have something in my stomach then I’ll be happy and content to know that I ate. We may be seeing the early stages of the breaking down of our economy but is all really lost? We may be reliant on others to make our food for us and we rely on others in some way, most of us do, when we are in need but maybe, with all of the disastrous things going on in the world, we should start thinking about taking care of our selves and maybe others pretty soon and not just sit on it too long and start taking action ASAP. Russia is out of wheat? Well, then I think we should try to grow some of our own. Not just in one locale but in several throughout our nation because in that way we may have a chance of having some wheat to eat if some of those crops do get destroyed for one reason or another and those areas should always employ cats to keep down the vermin populations destructive ways. The wise used to say, “Don’t count your chickens until they’ve hatched.” We’ve been counting on the chicken (Russia) and it’s ability to supply us before her egg has even hatched. I think I will not count on anything being there tomorrow because I know there is no guarantee. From the way that our president and the minions have handled everything since he walked through our door it is evident that they lack real wisdom. They’ve counted on there being enough money to cover our debt in the coming years but will it be there? There was no guarantee when they spent the money but they still went ahead and spent. Long ago, Egypt knew a famine for food was coming upon the land and their government stocked up and had enough to last for seven years. No one went hungry and they were able to feed lots of people. The government should use a little wisdom and do something that would benefit their country instead of pillaging it as if there is a never-ending supply of money and resources.

Absolutely correct, and we still are paying for misplaced policies, helping dictators, etc. Russia is burning; they continue to tear themselves apart trying to figure out how to govern themselves.
Our economy(?)… What economy??? After bailing out those that wished us financial ill and took action to destroy the US Dollar, getting through the next decade will be interesting, especially if the US banks (bailed out by us taxpayers) keep sending money out of CONUS and not lending to the unwashed masses as they are supposed to be doing.
