Gulf Oil Spill Disaster: The Trigger of American Economic Collapse?

Gulf Oil Spill Disaster: The Trigger of American Economic Collapse? – This article is written to analyze the potential economic fallout of the Gulf of Mexico oil rig explosion that occurred on April 20, 2010. I maintain that this incident could be the trigger of the American economic collapse. So, let’s look at what is going to happen as this disaster unfolds over time.

Detroit’s Unemployment Rate is 50% - Officially, Detroit’s unemployment rate is just under 30 percent. But the city’s mayor and local leaders are suggesting a far more disturbing figure — the actual jobless rate, they say, is closer to 50 percent.

Gulf Oil Leaks Could Gush for Years – “We don’t have any idea how to stop this,” expert says. If efforts fail to cap the leaking Deepwater Horizon wellhead in the Gulf of Mexico (map), oil could gush for years—poisoning coastal habitats for decades, experts say.

The Dollar Meltdown - is definitely a gloom and doom book. Fortunately, the author’s style of writing and enthusiasm for his subject – how to avoid the doom – keep the book from being depressing. Charles Goyette – the author – simply tells it like it is. And what it is, is a sad state of affairs. Goyette’s presentation is composed of four parts: where we are; how we got here; what happens next; and what to do. Read full review here.

The Ammo Shortage Continues - Scan the ammunition shelves at sporting goods stores, your local gun store, or even Walmart and odds are that you won’t find what you are looking for. The most common cartridges are in short supply, and many stores ration ammunition a box or two at a time to spread their meager stock among their customers.

Right now it feels like the camel’s back is cracking and we’re just awaiting that last straw.

Hopefully they’ll kick the can down the road far enough so more people can become self reliant.

So far the comments are more interesting than the article.

apparently you do not reside in the U.S. or you don’t get out much. self reliant? America is some kind of illusion, where the people are celebrity worshipping, junk food eating know- it -alls. most seem to be “redneck”. their kids are a joke. ill-mannered idiots. Americans have high self-esteem, think their educated more than anyone else, yet they have no global way to compete with the rest of the world. that’s a recipe for a third world working class. just as planned…..

I reside in the U.S. but it appears you don’t. There are people who fit your description globally. Not everyone belongs to the underbelly of society, there are plenty of good folks out there.

But if that’s all you see when you look around, well then it sucks to be you.

Ammo seems to be making a slight comeback. I just bought 500 rounds of 9mm last week from what have usually been empty shelves at Walmart. I also bought 2 sealed 500 round spam cans of Wolf 223 from Sportsmansguide. Their spam cans have been backorder only items for almost 2 years! Stock up while you can and learn to reload for the lean times.

Regarding the ammo shortage…
I think this article is behind the times. Our local walmart was out of everything months ago, but now they have every caliber in multiple brands. Federal 9mm, Rem 9mm, 380 auto, .223, .45 auto, Win white box of just about everything, Rem .40 hollow point value packs, etc.
It has been that way for several weeks now. The panic seems to be over.

Ammo is easier to acquire here too. Still expensive though.

There IS a bad feeling in the air. Local contractors, for example, have little or no work – and this is early Spring, when usually there is a pent-up demand for construction after the winter months. Very bad sign indeed.

Our Chinamart has a good supply of ammo at inflated prices and it is just sitting there. 22LR is about $19 for 550 packs, this is up from $11.97. They can keep it just like their other stuff they raised the prices up on. I don’t think it’s going to matter anyway, that oil spill is going to start a collapse we’re not going to recover from. The liberals have to do something before the Nov elections where they going to lose their asses.
