Survivalblog.com And Reality

by M.D. Creekmore on August 19, 2008

Survivalblog.com has been the subject of a number of emails, that I’ve received over the past several weeks.

The main concern seems to be from those who are strapped for cash. They feel their survival needs can’t be met unless they are financially well off and some are ready to give up making survival preps altogether.

Trust me; I make less than $10,000 a year and I know from my experience survival needs can be obtained, even for those on a tight budget.

Folks don’t give up. His writings like mine; are only suggestions, not rules set in concrete. Like Bruce Lee said; use what is useful. If you are well off financially, and feel you need to pack up and relocate to a “safe” place as he suggests, by all means get to it.

Just avoid going into debt to move to the “ideal” location. Don’t think for a moment the bankers and mortgage companies will overlook your unpaid loan, just because everyone else is having a difficult time making the payments.

Contrary to common thought, a global economic meltdown will not protect you from your unpaid dept. They will come after you and remove you from your retreat by force if need be. The Great Depression proved this. Stay out of dept.

If you can afford his suggestions for a battery of survival guns, (including: a stainless Ruger MKII, Ruger 10/22, Thompson/Center TC Contender, Colt Gold cup .45 ACP, Remington model 7 bolt-action in .223 Remington, Colt Car-15 .223, L1A1 in .308, Savage model 24F combination gun, two Winchester model 70s one chambered in .308 Winchester the other in .30-06 and finally a Remington 870 pump 12-gauge) they are all good serviceable tools that will serve you well and cover multiple chores around the home and retreat. His advice is sound; if you have the money. If you don’t you can get by cheaper and still be well-armed.

In his “Precepts of Rawlesian Survivalist Philosophy” Rawles states: A Rawlesian survivalist (whatever that is?) likely owns as many as four vehicles: One powered by gasoline, one diesel, one by propane, and one that is electric.

The same person probably owns a tri-fuel backup power generator that can run on gasoline, propane, or utility natural gas. Again this would all be nice; but unobtainable for most.

Most of his advice is totally useless for the majority of survival planners. But like I said before, use what is useful. He does post some useful insights from time to time. Just don’t give up on survival planning, because you think you must be one of the financial élite to prepare and survive.

Remember; just because you are poor or cheap doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for the coming collapse. The most important consideration is your will to survive and the knowledge held between your ears, everything else is secondary.
