DTOM Contributor Brandon Raub Arrested By FBI For Facebook Posts

Folks, this just hit my inbox – scary stuff. Our Constitutional Rights have been taken away in the name of “the war on terror” that started with George W Bush after 9/11.

I pray for our country, and that our elected officials will see the error of their ways and change course before it is to late. :flagus:

America will not be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. -Abraham Lincoln-

  1. robert in mid michigan says:

if he made terrist statements then he should have been arrested and read his rights but if they can not prove that then he should not even had to deal with the cops. if he made simple statements such as this government has gone to far, it needs to be replaced and so on then just about every one is guilty of these crimes at some point or another. just a side note here saying this government is curupt and needs to be replaced is not a terrorist statement, the government has gone to far if this is the case and we need to use our first amendment rites and be heard about it, not sure how but we are allowed to speak our oppinion so long as we do not harm others.(slander, lies and such)

    keep prepping
    keep praying
    this country can be fixed
we just need to return to our founding beliefs
    gad bless

    • riverrider says:

define terrorist statement please. how can a statement be “terroristic” ? they can burn the flag as free speech.

      • village idiot says:

This was in Chesterfield Co., Virginia, river. What gives, and is this close to you? And thank you for the clarification. By the way, did you read the link I posted on the Friday Misc. thread? Go read it if you haven’t.

        • riverrider says:

vi, chesterfield is about 2 hours east of me. i’ll go look….

        • riverrider says:

vi, read it…i don’t see a lot to get worked up about in it. its just a very flawed wargame to me. i see too much political angling in it to give it much credence myself. i know that wouldn’t fly in va. after reading lizardfarmer’s post on it, i feel more confident that our troops won’t be our main opposition. if they are, we’re jacked without air power anyway. no use worrying about it. i’m just charlie mike on building fortress riverrider 🙂

      • Homeinsteader says:

And a Native American, Russell Means, can wrap himself in an American flag with the flag upside down and be hailed as a “hero” of the Native American people?

I have every right to hold an opinion on this matter; I, too, am Native American – two tribes: Piankashaw, Miami Tribe, Wabash Council/Cherokee Federation, and “Seneca” – New York Council/Iroquois Federation. My great-great-grandmother was a captured slave to the Seneca. For those who do not know this, Native Americans ALWAYS enslaved the captured who were not tortured, killed, or “bartered” to another tribe for slavery.

And I do not support Russell Means.

More important, however, is my heritage through Y’eshua/Jesus Christ my Lord!

      • Papa Chop says:

It’s simple – a terroristic threat is one meant to inspire fear in another individual. An example: “threatens to commit any offense involving violence to any person or property with intent to place any person in fear of imminent, serious bodily injury.”

Freedom of speech is not absolute. Some of his statements:

“The Revolution is here. And I will lead it.”
“The Revolution will come for me. Men will be at my door soon to pick me up to lead it. ;)”
“This is the picture of the Pentagon, right after our leaders shot a missle into it.” (Aerial photo of the destroyed section of the Pentagon posted)
“The people responsible for posioning the America people from the sky will be held accountable. And there is going to be justice.”

I’m not the average prepper I guess, since I used to work in law enforcement. I have no time or patience for someone that makes statements like that. Society complains all day when someone pulls something like the shooting in Colorado “why didn’t anyone stop him?”, but then when they do grab somebody for showing signs of homicidal behavior, they bitch and moan about violated rights.

No one here knows anything specific about this – what he’s being charged with, etc. Lot of conjecture by some tinfoil wackjobs. I used to think this site was one of the more moderate ones for “preppers”, but I guess I was wrong.

        • SurvivorDan says:

Other LEOs comment here so you are not alone. I dislike some of his rhetoric but dissident speech is not a justification for arrest. It may be a reason for someone to pop up on the radar screens of law enforcement agencies. Keep an eye on the individual. Open an investigation, perhaps. But I haven’t yet seen any evidence that he was directly advocating a violent action of insurrection against the gov’t. We’ll have to wait for all the facts.
I don’t agree with everyone here but I have never (other than a known troll) denigrated someone posting because I disagreed with them.

” Lot of conjecture by some tinfoil wackjobs.”

I used to think this site was one of the more civilized and open-minded ones for “preppers”, but I guess I was wrong.

        • Tinfoil Hat says:

I’m sorry, but I see no specific threat in examples of any of his statements you provided. They are all generalities. You may not like what he said. That’s fine. You may also disagree with what he said. That is also fine. What is NOT fine is arresting him for exercising rights. Or perhaps you can explain precisely how the statements you provided present valid cause to deprive this man of his liberty…?

    • excuse me for being off every one’s concern, but didn’t he make comments about chopping people’s heads off? i have had several facebook friends talk about violence to elected leaders and asked them to contain the violent rehtoric to said persons. i cannot stand most of these people whose desire is the destruction of the nation, but vote them out and fire the unelected officals if they cross the line into tyranny. the sad thing about these “traitors” they have to uncover their real agenda, before it becomes laws. and many americans are lacking any education on the law of the land. start up constutional study groups to learn real information that is neither taught in 7th and 8th grade nor into high school. lack of proper education is the weapon to battle for the hearts and minds of the dimwits who no clue their being enslaved by a few.

  2. Hey it's Dave says:

I’m afraid someone is going to have to tell me what “DTOM” sands for.

  3. This is crazy, i just got on his page to see what the big deal is. All i can say is wow! They continue to suck us dry of our freedoms. Beware brothers and sisters!

  4. What is DTOM and what did this guy post Death Threats?

  5. MENTALMATT says:

Well I don’t know what to think, I’d like to read the Facebook posts myself, before I make any judgement. Sounds to me like they petitioned him in a mental hospital, and didnt charge him criminaly. One point, you don’t have to be read your rights at the time of arrest, only if you are going to be questioned about a crime. Thats normally done by detectives, not patrol officers. I hope he hasnt been victimized by the government, just not enough information on this incident at this time.

  6. I checked yje facebook page. I didnt know it was illegal to like crappy music.

  7. “DTOM” Don’t Tread on Me. It is an American Revolutionary ideology/motto, which is being revived in the wake of our present day governmental letdown. I have listened to and seen the video of Brandon’s detention on youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg5kIo1LkWk ).
It is tragic that you can be pulled from your home, made to laydown in your yard, cuffed, placed in a police car and halled away without even an explaination or charged with a crime. He certainly scared someone in the government. Prep on.

  8. The only logical explanation here is that the guy has been Baker Acted. He has been taken to a mental hospital–not jail. He was not read his rights. Depending on the state, they can usually hold someone for 72 hours to conduct a psyc. eval–without arresting the person. Typically a state needs a judge’s signature to keep a person longer than 72 hours without charging the person with a crime.

    • worrisome says:

Or……..is this one of those situations that Obama signed for on New Year’s Eve? Where someone can be held indefinitely just for being considered some sort of problem?

  9. worrisome says:

Wow! Scary stuff in any event!

  10. I guess we could all quote Lincoln’s opinions on revolutionary rights and duties… that may be a terrorist orientated statement today so…. lets not. For the benefit of our listening brothers at the FBI, I would be the last person to show such poor judgement as to utter any.. thing that could be construed as….. terrorist in nature yea even treason… usss or lets not forget seditious. I mean crap…. its not like this little thing hasn’t dumped a big olde bucket O ice water on the bill of rights er nothing. I mean everything you read or hear on the internet is true …. right? Then…… again …. this wouldn’t be anything along the line of lighting the fire under the pan with the FROG in it ….. would it?

  11. Tinfoil Hat says:

The utter lack of respect for free speech in this country is nauseating. It is enough to make one swear off of websites with ANY potential controversial information. I admit to considering going MIA here, but I just like the pack too much…

    • SurvivorDan says:

      Ditto Tinfoil Hat.
Can’t let THEM cause us all to lose contact while going to ground.

  12. riverrider says:

wow, and people wonder why i duck when osprey planes fly over……

  13. Funny quoting Lincoln , he was one of the worst .

    • Lincoln… This guy is thought of as the gold standard when the masses think of the rights of man. Usually by sheeple that have only gone a wee bit past High School History. hypocrisy is a word history will connect with the man. Self serving political wagon jumper is a phrase I have seen in print regarding ‘Saint Lincoln’.

Recinded the first amancipation proclomation issued by his Commanding Gen. at the start of the war. The guy who decides that no one but him has the right to revolt against an ‘unjust’ government. Trumped up ‘his’ amancipation proclomation about the time he couldn’t get the general population to put up with the war or hand over the money or sons to fight it.

Gotta jump forward to Wilson, FDR and GW Bush to find some folks with more distain for the free will of humanity.

Now we have a Maxist in office, and the appointees there un too, and the sheeple wonder…. WTF ..

      Rant concluded MD.

      • Like Ron Paul said about him ……..if slavery was the issue , why not just abolish it by legislation like all other countries did , without the need for over 600,000 dead . But that wasnt the real issue , it was about taxation and power . When the civi war broke out , only 6% of the southerners were slave owners ……..soooooooooooo if it was about that ……….what were the other 94% fighting for ? dont believe leftist history . The civil war was fought by the Confederacy for many the same reasons that the Revolution was fought over . Lincoln was a tyrant with a forked tongue . Hows it workin for us now ?

        • Homeinsteader says:

According to one OLD (1950’s) “History of New York State” book I read some while back, NY actually held more slaves, per capita, than any other state. I no longer have that book; sent it to a family member who moved to NY State last year. But, you don’t hear about THAT in the history books today, do you?

          • And you wont either , our history is as distorted as Russia’s after the Communist revolution .

  14. Listen to the way she told the story. She lied or at least filled in with speculation the facts she does not know. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but she doesn’t have her facts straight and is doing her son a disservice. Sorry to be that guy but my bs alarm when off.

    • nobody,

Could be – but at this point I don’t think any of us has all of “the facts” do you? Then who’s “facts” are we going to believe those of the government or the “facts” from the family? The Government lies all of the time and unfortunately so does a lot of citizens. Usually, the truth is somewhere in the middle. If you know all of the “facts” of this case please share with the rest of us…

      • It’s a Fact. Nobodys bs detector went off. So did mine. Other then that we will all have to wait and see.

  15. Like I’ve said for ages, if you’re dumb enough to use sites like Facebook you deserve whatever you get.

  16. Interesting development, but it should not be a surprise.

  17. To paraphrase … all that is necessary for evil to flourish is for good men and women to do nothing …

  18. Paranoia Alert! MD… better be careful about the slippery slope your standing on. I know I will.

Did ya hear that down at the Hoover bldg.? Same shit…. different colored shirts, higher pay and better equipment.

  19. SurvivorDan says:

Some of his language seems a bit incendiary, vague threats but not directly targeting anyone in particular. Free speech. Maybe not my kind of speech (though I share some of his misgivings and mistrust regarding Gov’t) but still free speech.
Perhaps he stepped over the line and sent someone a threat.
Otherwise it looks like free speech is only what the Gov’t determines it to be. Need to know what precipitated his ‘arrest’ and incarceration.
Apparently Nation of Islam and jihadist madras incendiary speech is okay?
But an ex-marine who thinks his Gov’t conspires against him (is that such a stretch?) and tells people to prepare to defend the Constitution gets grabbed up and placed in a mental institution?
Like I said. Let’s wait for all the facts of the ‘arrest’…if we ever get the real truth.
If THEY had no grounds but ‘suspicion’, it is chilling………..

  20. Prepping Preacher says:

in my opinion, “it” has begun already but NOT as a tidal wave but rather as a drip and this is but one of many, many more “drips” to come which will erode away the barriers to a totalitarian gov’t to a continuous leak giving way to complete and total collapse of all freedoms we have… welcome to the “hope & change” touted 3+ years ago by the socialist-in-chief illegally occupying our White House…

  21. Hello everyone. I just wanted to add my two cents to this interesting topic. I believe the apprehension of this Patriot was unjust in many ways. It’s crystal clear to me someone in the governmental hierarchy was worried about something he wrote on his facebook blog.

This situation is simple. The government unleashed their militarized Gestapo (Law Enforcement Personnel) to retrieve and collect information to ascertain whether of not he’s a threat. If they truly wanted to find a threat they should’ve looked in the mirror because they’re the threat. The militarization of the local Police Departments is just another example of the desperation of our corrupt government. To think they could stop all of us with machine guns, grenades, armored personnel carriers, helicopter gunship’s, and bogus arrests is foolish. Although they don’t know it yet, they’ll eventually lose because they‘re going to bite off more than they could chew.

Wake up! The current government obviously doesn’t care about our rights as it’s citizens by looking for ways to trample on our constitutionally protected freedoms and wasting our hard earned money. I’m sure we’ll see many more examples of this in the near future because the government doesn’t want its authority challenged. Throughout history the majority of oppressive regimes such as this have failed. History shows that once you lose support of its people it’s only a matter of time before the regime crumbles to the ground.

With many problems in life it usually gets worse before it gets better. So, please plan for the worst but hope for the best because hard times are defiantly coming. God bless America!

  22. They got him good. You no longer have the legal right to buy guns if you have ever been admitted to a mental hospital. If you lie and say you havent been admitted to a mental hospital(even tho they drug you there on false pretenses) you can go to jail for that.I am waiting for legislation to come down the pike that gives them the right to confiscate your weapons if you were ever admitted to a mental hospital.(it may already be in place and I just dont know it) I have no guns for that reason.I cant buy a gun because of a bad decision I made during a time of great stress for me.I’m sunk to poking people in the eye with a stick for protection.Sucks.

  23. Only someone completely ignorant of history believes that the taking away of constitutional rights began under W and the war on terror. The Sedition Act of 1798 was a direct assault on the first amendment. Lincoln dramatically expanded the power and scope of the executive branch, along with the federal government, egregiously ignoring the constitutional rights of Americans, while at the same time starting a war that killed more Americans than any other war in US history. Our economic rights have been under assault for at least 100 years and the war on drugs has done far more damage to the bill of rights than the war on terror.
