How To Store Ammunition

How To Store Ammo

Has anyone else noticed the ammo supply being essentially non-existent in certain calibers?

Yesterday, I stopping by the local Wal-Mart, hoping to find the Winchester white box 9mm in the 100 round “economy packs” and found the shelf empty of just about every type, brand and caliber.

I asked the clerk on duty when they expected  a new shipment, and he said it had been on back order for several months and they had no idea when of if it would be back in stock.

Having a supply of usable ammunition, is important insurance against the day of need. You can own the best weapons and gear, but without ammunition, all you have is an expensive club.

I store my ammunition in surplus 20mm ammunition containers bought from a local surplus store. I check each can to make sure it’s in good condition. When I get the cans home I clean and apply a  thick coat of black paint and let dry for several days in the sun.

After filling the can, I throw in a desiccant pack to absorb moister and close the lid. That’s really all there is to it. Simple.

A couple years ago I scored a 5 gal bucket full of large dessicant packs (about the size of a bag of M&Ms) for free from a computer company that sold and installed servers for companies and corporations. I place one pack inside each of my .30 & .50 cal ammo cans. Another place to check into is places that sell pianos.
