  1. Eric Jacobson says:

I just read the article “I Choose To Be Broke” on the Lew Rockwell site.

I think the writer has some good points in his efforts to be self-sustaining.

However, his thoughts about living on $1000.00/month can only work very well for a bachelor without any children at home.

How about realistically living on that paltry sum with a wife and four hungry children in the house, even with a small mortgage, basic utilities, etc?

I do believe in living simply with no debt, but the thought of hunkering down with a stash of canned beans and eating them by candlelight, while hoards of hungry welfare zombies rummage around your neighborhood seeking whom they may devour sounds pretty bleak.

Yes, being prepared, and being able to sustain your family through tough times is important, but when it comes down to us having to set booby traps at the front door to keep the neighbors out, lets go ahead and get the whole thing over with!

It is interesting to see all the “survivalist” sites popping up these days. Gloom and doom may well be on its way, but I’m not so sure when all hell breaks loose, those of us who are left with any true understanding of liberty and hope for a better world might be better off going out in a blaze of glory rather than hunkering down, hoarding canned goods, and fighting off our neighbors!

This world could really use a few more martyrs who proclaim the truth to the end.
