The only selling out I see you doing is to move to a better place.

I like the direction your folks are taking. Too bad we have to do it. Ours are still trying to be more like the “big boys” and forget we are, by definition, a rural fly-over state.

I CAN NOT wait to move back to TN. I kick myself in the “you know what” everytime I think about it… should have never moved away to begin with!!! Hopefully it won’t be too much longer and I can be a resident “Vol” again.

Lol better add Texas to that list too. Luckily we’re having a drought and most of them furaners pass out in 100 degree heat. Not too mention the snakes and spiders we have.

m.d., my NG buddies from out that way went back and forth across the border to do stuff like shopping etc. can you tell us why they were doing that? does tn have car tax? real estate taxes? sales tax? i remember they delighted in playing the tax dodging game. i’m looking at a spot in hancock county on the border. probly take a trip out as soon as it warms up to take a look around. i can play the game too ;)

Orwellian States March 13, 2013 at 6:24 am

Yes. We have a sales tax (about 9%) and property taxes, which are pretty low compared to the blue states. We live in a 5 bdr rm/4bath house on 13 acres and the property tax was less than $1500.00 last year. There is NO state income tax except on some form of out of state investment. I live in mountains of E TN close to North Carolina … love it.

I will have to say I am glad I live Utah. It is not perfect but close. Great Gun Laws, Land is cheap and we Drill,Drill,Drill. They are Drilling new wells all the time. Now if we could get around all the EPA laws we could refine more to bring the price down.

But Orwellian, I was just up there. Might as well be in the Hamptons…too many tourists and summer people and newcomers are faced with higher prices. It’s beautiful but I fear it will be difficult to maintain security in a SHTF situation.

We tend to be some of the tourists but I stay away from the touristy spots like Gatlinburg. We enjoy some of the lesser known areas, but people have begun to find them too.

I guess if I were to live East of the Mississippi River, Tennessee will need to be the location to consider.
I reckon that the locals would not be too likely to accept an influx of ‘newcomers’ though.

G -ma and everyone-In the small town we live near in upstate NY we have garter snakes and American water snakes and the spotted otter-
corn and milk snakes- none of them poisonous .In NJ where we farmed their were copperheads and king snakes .We were born and raised in NYS and the locals here didnt wave to us for at least 5 years -so we understand local folks have their ways. Finally now many folks are coming around to out weird thinking of 40 years ago -grass fed beef, organic farming, natural bee keeping abd educating our children at home. God bless- Arlene
Remember we are all outsiders -after all the Native Americans
were here first.
