Obama signs law giving himself lifetime Secret Service guard

This just in…

Obama signs law giving himself, Bush lifetime Secret Service guard!

President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into a law a measure giving him, George W. Bush and future former presidents and their spouses lifetime Secret Service protection, the White House announced.

How much do you want to bet that those  Secret Service guards will be armed with one of those evil guns? I hope has another one of those executive orders up his sleeve that will offer one of those Secret Service guards free of charge for every “citizen” after he bans the second amendment and thus our means of self-defense…

The law also provides protection for former presidents’ kids until age 16.

Well isn’t that nice… he does not want to even consider allowing teachers to go armed or hiring school resource officers to protect anyone elses children from being murdered… Apparently, they aren’t important enough to be protected.

And just think us tax payers will have to pay for all of this at a cost of at least several hundred thousand per year…

As good as that sounds I’m already on enough LISTS. Time to play the silent watchman for a while. Need a little more time to prepare for visitors.

It’s the govt. way… spend like there is no tomarrow because it’s not our money. If we run out we’ll just raise taxes and spend more. All those elitists need to be brought back down to earth and see how the rest of us live.

Maybe instead of a tv show “wife swap” there should be a tv show where politicians swap out with regular people.

If I were with the SS and given that (BO) ASSignment, I’d walk off the job.
Before this new law, what was the period of time that protection was given to former presidents?

Most all ‘Executive Orders’ are to reiterate existing laws……meaning, the standing president is focusing on funding areas that may have fallen to cuts.
Below is a part of the description from

http://www.archives.gov/research/jfk/warren-commission report/appendix7.html

In 1963 the Secret Service was one of several investigative agencies in the Treasury Department. Its major functions were to combat counterfeiting and to protect the President, his family, and other designated persons. The Chief of the Secret Service administered its activities through four divisions: Investigation, Inspection, Administrative, and Security, and 65 field offices throughout the country, each under a special agent in charge who reported directly to Washington. The Security Division supervised the White House detail, the White House Police, and the Treasury Guard Force. During fiscal year 1963 (July 1, 1962-June 30, 1963) the Secret Service had an average strength of 513, of whom 351 were special agents. Average strength of the White House Police during the year was 179.66

The ‘Vision’ began in 1901, funny how small the government was then.
Lets go back to then for obumnuts !!

Ex Presidents had SS protection for awhile. Long enough that Nicholas Cage made a movie about it forever ago.

M.D. Creekmore January 11, 2013 at 8:18 am

TR
There was a 10-year limit on Secret Service protection for former presidents. Now they get it for life… You can’t believe eveything you see on TV…

TOR January 11, 2013 at 5:59 pm

Yeah my bad. I caught that and was coming back to delete my incorrect comment.

Mari January 11, 2013 at 6:03 am

Umm, I gotta read up on this one. And I know a few people to ask for clarification. Didn’t former presidents already have this as long as they wanted it??? Perhaps this is really only an extension for spouse?

Tactical G-Ma January 11, 2013 at 7:39 am

I thought it was already policy that presidents and first ladies get SS for life.

Did Obama do this to make sure this entitlement was not on the chopping block when budget cuts come down the pipe?

‘Guns for Me and Not For Thee’ at its finest, and the band played on . . . not a peep from the Media either. I didn’t see that coming . . .

J Stuart January 11, 2013 at 8:48 am

This is not convenient for the media to discuss.

riverrider January 11, 2013 at 10:19 am

more do as i say, not what i do. his kids go to school with 11 armed guards on duty every day, plus ss detail, but we can’t even have a gun within 1000 feet of a school? time to play cowboys and politicians.

tommy2rs January 11, 2013 at 11:58 am

Takers gonna take.

k.fields January 11, 2013 at 5:20 pm

I think there is a bit of misunderstanding on this issue.

Number 1 – CONGRESS gave lifetime protection to Bush and Obama. Congress (both houses, both parties) passed this bill by majority vote. The President mearly signed it into law – it WAS NOT an Executive Order.

Number 2 – Ex-Presidents (and families) had lifetime protection until 1997 when coverage was dropped to 10 years. All ex-Presidents who served BEFORE Jan.1, 1997 continued to get lifetime protection even after the law was changed. So Clinton had lifetime protection and Bush would have been the first President to only get 10 years of protection.

What this law did was to simply nullify the changes made in 1997 giving, once again, lifetime protection to ALL former Presidents and their families.

Tactical G-Ma January 11, 2013 at 8:32 pm

K.,
I learned that today. I don’t think this is a bad thing. Our living presidents have always done philanthropic activities and have served as unofficial ambassadors. An attack on a former president is unacceptable.

k.fields January 11, 2013 at 10:15 pm

I agree completely.

T.R. January 11, 2013 at 8:19 pm

1200 yards is not difficult shooting for a trained person in modern times . As much as this guy goes around shaking hands in public places……..they cant possibly cover all the angles . just sayin

smiledr January 11, 2013 at 9:15 pm

Interesting that one of the worst Presidents in recent history, Jimmy Carter, has refused his ss entitlement.

T.R. January 12, 2013 at 3:34 pm

The thing about Carter , was that as an individual , he wasn’t a bad guy , he was just totally unfit for leadership of any kind . He probably would have been very well liked by everybody if he was in a profession more suited to his temperament such as guidance counselor of a high school or a barber .

oldguy52 January 12, 2013 at 9:46 pm

Ha ha…. Indeed!

As Presidents go, Carter would have made a heck of a carpenter
