A new national survey of gunowners both affiliated and unaffiliated with the NRA found that they believe the president will act to ban gun sales.
82 percent of NRA members support a law prohibiting individuals on terrorist watch lists from purchasing guns, while 69 percent of the group’s membership supports closing the loophole allowing individuals to purchase guns at firearms expos without going through the legally-mandated background check.
“M.D. adds – Read that last paragraph again… Who decides those listed on the “terrorist watch list” and what loophole. Selling personal property, whether it be a hammer or firearm should be at the discretion of the owner and buyer.”

Perhaps this is why ammunition sales has been on a tear since Obama won the election. I don't think people are stockpiling cases of ammo for "hunting" or "sporting" purpose. I believe many feel we are happy to return our guns right now. Bullets first.
The more I enter the debate about 2nd Amendment rights, the more I question the intentions of the NRA. Honestly, I feel they are part of the problem, as they have adopted a position of compromise with gun regulation. I interpret #2 as "shall not be infringed" – plain and simple.
I know they are the biggest lobby we have, but that is the problem – they have a vested interest in sustaining the "gun rights" debate.
I am a member, so's my dad, so's my brother – have been for a long time. But the NRA needs to stop compromising and take a hard line, 2nd approach to their political influence. They should not be supporting background checks, carry permits or any other restrictions.
Here is what their 2010 public policy statement should be: Any government official who has or does act against the second amendment is called on to resign their position, effective immediately. Further, the NRA will not contribute or support any official or agency that has at any time, past or present, engaged in the registration, restriction or any other infringement of a US citizen's 2nd amendment rights.
