Others have had enough; of the “civilized world” and the crap that comes with it and are ready to pack up and take the steps necessary for a new life.
But is this type of lifestyle change right for you or are you better off sticking with the job, mortgage, traffic and noise. If you are happy with your life why change?
Happiness is different things to different people. While I enjoy the challenges and rewards of living off-grid; many would fall into a state of depression, cursing me for ever planting the suggestion.
The wife (or husband) and kids are a wild card. A few would enjoy the life, unfortunately most will curse the ground you walk on because they cannot deal with the isolation and lack of utility’s.
They miss their friends, shopping malls, sports and other things they left behind. Remember this maybe your dream but don’t expect them to go along for the ride.
On the other hand if you hate your life and want to escape, this could be your ticket to freedom, just don’t expect it to be easy – at least not at first.
It is a lot of work to get everything in working order, if you shy away from hard work maybe you would be better off staying put…
For many of us this is the only way we will ever own a dept free piece of dirt and four walls of our own. The 30 year mortgage never sat well with me, I hate debt and the crap that comes with it.
The 60 hour work week, the dimwit boss and back stabbing co-workers, not to mention the increasing possibility of job loss.
You work 15 years in a job you hate, you get up and go every morning, wishing things could be different – just a few more years you think; I will have this house paid off and can retire.
Then come the layoffs, shut downs and eviction notice. Before you know it you’re chewing on a shotgun barrel, trying to figure out how things could have gotten this bad.
While this life is not for everyone, some people are just natural recluse who enjoy the peace, quit and alone time. Only you can make the final decision…
Could you live (and be happy) in a travel trailer or RV out past the power lines?
