Survival Fiction

by M.D. Creekmore on August 17, 2009

While I haven’t read much survivalist fiction, I know a lot of readers have and are probably looking for the next great survival story. I love to read, but due to a lack of time (gardening, chores and writing this blog) I don’t get to enjoy as many books as I would like.

Don’t be fooled; living off-grid and trying to become self-reliant is a lot of hard work. Don’t think you will spend your time with your feet propped up watching the sun disappear into night. Expect sweat, dirt and hard work with little free time.

In a few weeks, I’ll be done with the growing and preserving that comes with raising a garden, leaving more time for reading. I hope.

With fall and winter comes hunting and trapping, but I plan to make time for reading and I’m looking to add some survivalist fiction to my list, as I’m sure many of you are.

What have you read? Was it bad, fair, good or excellent? What is the best work of survival fiction that you have read? Should we read it and why?
