Ok, lets look at something that most of you, yes even the so called “gun experts” forget about. It is called ‘standardization’. Yes a 30-30 , AK-47, Arnold 7mm WIN MAG or your neat Colt Python are great to have on hand, but could you pick up spare ammo off the street? From the body of a fallen what-ever? No. But chances are you will be able to find standard AR mags and the common pistol mags carried by “government employees” and others. Common would be the .40 Glock and the same in a S&W M&P. Common issue pistols almost everyplace in the U.S.. And lets not forget about the widely used 12 gauge either….

Sorry guys, but I don’t buy the picking up ammo off dead bodies thing. A shtf scenario will not be WW2 revisited. (Of coarse if I’m wrong then we’ll be picking up the weapons aswell as the ammo.)

My guess is the danger will be the have-nothing desperado approaching asking for help & pulling a knife or gun (like a common criminal) or some camo-wearing wackkos making a move on your home.

In any case ONLY aimed fire or fast, accurate instinctive shooting (up close) will work.

At 50-300 yards (that’s aqbout the max unless you live in the middle of the prairie or the desert) one aimed shot from the scout scope mounted 336 will whoop AK spray. I know the ARs are reasonably accurate but I doubt we’ll be able to keep ‘em ready during the ‘gov’t goes-crazy-and confiscates-stuff’ period PRIOR to shtf. Also, with all the unprovisioned bug-out types out there looking for ammo to resupply the stuff they’ve sprayed away with their EBRs, I’d rather not have any .223, 7.62×39, 9mm etc. in my basement that they’d covet.
