Thursday miscellany

1. Do Wall Street Insiders Expect Something Really BIG To Happen Very Soon? : “Why are corporate insiders dumping huge numbers of shares in their own companies right now? Why are some very large investors suddenly making gigantic bets that the stock market will crash at some point in the next 60 days?”

2. Unprecedented Demand: Americans Purchase a Gun Every 1.5 Seconds : “For the last two months Americans have been lining up in unprecedented numbers at gun shops and gun shows across the country. In fact, demand has been so massive that the FBI’s background check system in a number of states crashed as a result of being overwhelmed.”

3. How the post-Sandy Hook gun control push spectacularly backfired in America : “In the aftermath of the tragic Sandy Hook shooting, the gun grabbers across America unleashed a full court press to try to wholly disarm American citizens. With the help of the incessantly anti-gun mainstream media, people like Biden, Bloomberg, Cuomo, Feinstein and Obama managed to stir up a frenzy of fabricated fear that promised all our children would be violently gunned down if we didn’t immediately agree to turn in all our guns and ammo magazines.”

4. Nearly Half Of American Families Live On The Edge Of Financial Ruin : “A sobering new report by the Corporation for Enterprise Development shows nearly half of U.S. households (132.1 million people) don’t have enough savings to weather emergencies, or finance long-term needs like college tuition, health care and housing.”

5. A solar ‘superstorm’ is coming and we’ll only get 30-minute warning : “A solar “superstorm” could knock out Earth’s communications satellites, cause dangerous power surges in the national grid and disrupt crucial navigation aids and aircraft avionics, a major report has found.”

6. 10 “Must-Have” Family Board Games : “The snow is falling, the temperature is dropping, and chestnuts are being roasted on open fires. Ok, so we’ve never actually roasted any chestnuts on an open fire, but we sing about it a lot this time of year. The other thing we do a lot of this time of year is play family board games.”

7. All data stored on cloud computing services can be accessed by US government without a warrant : “According to reports, all personal information stored on major cloud computing services can be spied on by US agencies without users’ knowledge or even a search warrant.”

#2. Just read this on yahoo this morning.
Just whom did they poll all liberals?

  2. I was looking at the games selection and realized I only recognized a couple of them. I need to start checking these out. I also like jigsaw puzzles for winter fun.

  3. Half of households don’t have the financial resources to maintain themselves during economic downturns or and long term savings. What a surprise! Since most households have believed that it’s the governments responsibility to take care of them, long term/disaster, it’s all getting spent. Much of it on “new stuff” that we really don’t need.

When times were slower and things were farther away, we put things way, “for a rainy day” / “I’ll need this next year and it’s on sale now.” / “It takes 3 hours to get to town, so I’m only going once a month.” Now we just look it up on the internet or “run into town”.

How many of us still call home before we leave work to see if there’s anything we need to pick up on the way. I would say in this group, more than normal. Because we do plan ahead.

    • Alittle2late says:

Well I’m alone and the dog can’t talk, so that would be a no phoning home for me 🙂

    • It’s really about the family. Living on one income is not feasible anymore as corporations have used the women’s movement to enslave entire families. Now wages for men and women are down. A dual income family is the norm or a family with a woman as the head of household with a low income and guberment assistance. The cost of goods and services keep going up but when was the last time anyone asked for a raise or received one. Americans are scraping by because the guberment wants to turn us into a third world village.
Since my DW and I understand all this we communicate daily about things we need to get done and car pool (I know that sounds strange) together to run our errands. We plan our trips to the market and monitor our use of utilities to avoid any over charges by greedy energy companies. As MD’s CD says ITEOTW and I’ll feel fine. Prep now, prep hard.

  4. riverrider says:

    1) blah. rats leaving a sinking ship.
    2) evening “news” tried to say that the number of checks falling this month was due to easing concerns. um, newsflash! no easing concerns, just short supply, idiot.
    3) yep, so far. but look for another incedent soon. even if frankensteins bill fails, i’m betting tdl will use eo’s.
    4) wait til obamacare kicks in fully. many of us will be ruined.
    5) oh well, can’t beat the sun.
    6) they took the iron out of monopoly and put in a cat. think a bout it….
    7) duh.
    8) they want to give preferred status to illegals while legals wade thru years of beaucracy. um, if i break the law, i LOSE rights, not GAIN them.
    9) they can KILL you but they can’t WATERBOARD you…..idk,more “humane”?
    10) some @sshat flying thru my hood killed my little rudy the wonderdawg, the happiest spirit i ever met. didn’t even stop. i hope their tire flies off. if i find out who it was i’m going to kick them square in the nads.
    11) as a result of number 10 i will be purchasing a collection of colorful beach balls, to be tossed out in front of speeding cars in front of my house. who needs board games? a chair, a sixpack, and a box of beachballs provide hours of fun.

    • Alittle2late says:

Sorry to hear about your Rudy. I like the beach ball Idea.

    • Hi Riverrider. Sorry about your dog,I lost one recently but yours was in a way stolen from you. Take care buddy.

    • RR –
So sorry to hear about your little dog – was he the one you rescued? or the one that was injured last year?
I think that driver deserves a lot more than just a swift kick …

    • sorry to hear about your Rudy. 🙁

      • riverrider says:

thanks all….he was the recent rescue(last year). all our pets are rescued. always greeted us with a smile and ears just a flopping. we miss him dearly.

        • RR:

After we lost our 2 dogs, within 6 months of each other, we picked up another dog at the pound. He’s been a real blessing to us. I’d do it again.

    • It is perfectly legal to set out in your yard and watch your kids play as you hold a loaded scattergun in Texas. God bless the Republic.

  5. I have noticed a couple things.
First the MSM is blowing happy smoke. More so then normal. Started happening a few weeks back . Even Fox news. Almost as if they have been told to stop with the neg talk.
and Second Iran has grown large balls. They don’t need to deal as they are armed. Armed with a nuke

My Ford 1987 f15o is efi and has dual tanks. I have 3 fuel pumps in it and 1 has failed. I was thinking of changing it up to run on propane and gas. The 3 electric fuel pumps from ford are in the 1500 $ range, umm crap I said.
I can switch it to a carb for about 100 bucks using junkyard parts. I can then add in the propane kit. Not sure what to do . Any thoughts please share em

    • Alittle2late says:

Make a list of all parts for fix and changeover and go with what ever is cheaper. Propane can be stored at home in a large tank and it doesnt go bad…

    • k. fields says:

      GIL –
I’ve gotten parts for my Ford online from Rock Auto ( and have always been pleased with there service.
You didn’t say which pump is out, but they have both the ones in the tanks as well as the chassis-mounted in-line high-pressure one. Tank pumps are around $80 and chassis-mount is a bit over $300.

Years ago, some friends did a propane conversion on their pickup (already carburated) and never could get it to run right – but if you decide to do a conversion be sure to share how you did it and how it turned out. I’m sure there are others besides me who would be interested in having that option.

    • Propane is a poor mans efi! I know of 4 wheelers who use propane in there rigs. You can run upside down with a propane unlike a carb.It will cost you more then 100 bucks to go propane though it would be a good idea. It is also smog exempt in many cases.

  6. And for fans of truecrypt, ya might want to read this article.

Forensic tool to decrypt TrueCrypt, Bitlocker and PGP contains and disks released
The tool from Elcomsoft does require physical access to the machine and a memory dump or hibernation file, still might want to check the article out.

    • This is not new. If you leave the keys to your house laying around on your deck you shouldn’t be surprised that someone gains access. Same here, not following best practices for security when using these products This is not a hack of the products or encryption, it is taking advantage of leaving the keys where someone can find them.

  7. 1. CEO’s and executive level type are cashing in on their shares to compensate for “furlough” days without pay, while still getting exorbitant and mostly unwarranted bonuses.
    2. We can thank the Obummer administration and the anti-gun activists for putting more guns into more peoples hands over the last few months than any time before in our history.
    3. More misinformation and media misdirection to take focus off other underlying issues that are getting railroaded through legislation.
    4. I’m in that category too… while the only debt I have is my vehicle I am one paycheck away from becoming homeless
    5. If it happens there is nothing anyone can do about it, other than deal with it as best as you can… everyone will be in the same boat, albeit some will be better prepared for extended period than others.
    6. I like my backpacking magnetic Checkers/Chess/Backgammon set and a small Cribbage board with 2 decks of cards and 6 dice in a small case
    7. I am sorry… anyone that backs up their computer systems onto an ‘online backup source’ has got to be out of their minds… who in their right mind would send all of the personal information to be stored on someone else’s server outside of their control not knowing who has access… ever hear of a USB External Drive?

  8. Backwoods Prepper says:

Taking all bets the rogue policeman in LA is using a Remington Bushmaster if not some of AR.

    • You win the prize! The Christian Science Monitor reports:

“Mr. Dorner, who was dismissed from the LAPD in 2008 for making false statements, is thought to be armed with an assault rifle and other weapons”

      Article link:

    • Backwoods Prepper says:

Hate when I’m right. Those LA police officers must be shakin’ like a dog pooping a peach seed. Shooting up everything that’s Dark colored and moving slow. Can you believe they shot up two paper delivery ladies. They had only their park lights on driving slowly down the street at 5:30 in the morning, Well duh huh genius they have been doing that for 20+ years that I know of. And look at the back of their truck they shot both the driver and the passenger. Which means if Droner was in the vehicle they would have been purposly shooting what might have been a hostage lol

  9. Tactical G-Ma says:

Yep. What Mike and rr said except I don’t have a little rudy but I like drinking beer and kicking gnads!

  10. Alittle2late says:

well, you were waiting for the next crazy with a gun, he’s running around commifornia, killing cops and their kids. This just keeps getting better by the day! (sarcasm) I’m not going into detail you can look it up for yourself. LORD help us!!!!
