1. Online poll: Rand Paul the conservative pick for president in 2016 : “Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is leading an online poll being conducted by Contract From America as the conservative pick for president in 2016.”

2. Private Prisons: The More Americans They Put Behind Bars The More Money They Make : “How would you describe an industry that wants to put more Americans in prison and keep them there longer so that it can make more money? In America today, approximately 130,000 people are locked up in private prisons that are being run by for-profit companies, and that number is growing very rapidly. Overall, the U.S. has approximately 25 percent of the entire global prison population even though it only has 5 percent of the total global population.”

3. Cops respond to attempted suicide; Shoot man with scissors to death. : Police shot and killed a man Sunday evening they say was suicidal and threatening two officers with a pair of scissors.

4. Bill would ban lead ammunition in California : “Environmentalists are pushing legislation to ban lead ammunition in California to prevent toxins from poisoning scavengers that eat animal remains left by hunters.”

5. Quiz: Are you smarter than an atheist? “: “Atheists and agnostics, Jews and Mormons are among the highest-scoring groups in a 32-question survey of religious knowledge by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.”

6. Feds buying 100 years worth of ammo : “As WND previously reported, it also would be enough ammunition to fight a war for more than 20 years. It would give the federal government enough ammunition to shoot every American more than five times.” BANG, BANG, BANG. BANG, BANG, BANG!

7. America is veering towards dictatorship, Supreme court justices and top government officials warn : “When you hear a U.S. Supreme Court Justice and other top government officials use the say that America is veering towards dictatorship, it should alarm you tremendously because they are, in essence, firing a warning shot.” And the people cheered!

8. 78% of MSNBC Viewers Approve of ‘Targeted Killing of American Citizens’ : “MSNBC host Ed Schultz surveyed his undeniably left-wing viewership on the issue of President Obama’s drone strike policy, specifically the targeting of American citizens for assassination. A full 78% took the time to text their support; only 22% disagreed.”

9. 11 Things The Government Is Doing To Promote More Illegal Immigration : “Why does it seem like Barack Obama has been doing everything that he can to sabotage our border security and promote more illegal immigration? The number one responsibility of the president of the United States is to defend our nation, and yet Obama stubbornly refuses to secure our borders. In fact, he has been doing quite a bit to make it even easier for millions more drug runners, gang members and welfare parasites to enter our country illegally.”

10. Christian, Please Wake Up! : “What is it going to take for pastors and churches to wake up and realize that America is in the throes of a burgeoning police state?”

1. He could just be the answer.
2. Yeah the dollar has always been the downfall. Does this include those camps?
3. You mean the cops brought guns to a scissors fight?
4. I am tired of regulations heaped on regulations. If other animals ate the lead wouldn’t they crap it out?
5. Don’t feel like taking a quiz. I had enough of that in school. I am as smart as I need to be. And I don’t care if an Atheist etc., takes it and THINKS they have scored big time.
6.The Feds probably have more than what we know they have from this last years of a buying spree.
7.Seems it is to late for those that are in with those that caused the mess to be alerting the people.
8.Yeah well may they be the first.
9. Since the 60′s we have had an immigration problem. Why they wish to continue it is beyond me.
10. Yes, Christians WAKE UP. But most won’t listen.

#2 I don’t know anything about prisons, but do the private prison corporations and employees get to report on who deserve good behavior, etc. Or are the guards public servants who work in a private prison? If they are private employees this is a gross conflict of interest for one of America’s most vulnerable populations. I have to learn more about this.

#5 I took the quiz and scored a 29. But have to admit I consider myself an agnostic. I’ll make sure my kids continue to be exposed to church and the bible, but I just am not a person of much faith.

SW March 12, 2013 at 5:27 pm

As to the good behavior… what they do is look at an inmates record on the inside. IF I write a guy up for a code violation then it goes on his record. When it comes time for them to look at good conduct the board takes all write ups into consideration. So in essense it’s not the officers that oversee the inmates that make the decision. It’s someone in a confrenece room looking at paperwork.

#5. I took the test; answered 28 of 32 correctly. They didn’t ask my religion or any personal questions, so I assume the test is closed.
I also assume they questioned only folks who happened to walk past their front door. According to their sampling I was supposed to get only 16 correct.

Obviously they didn’t talk to any Wolf Pack members (well, maybe a couple :-).

The problem IS NOT the prisons. If privately run prisons can do it better and cheaper I am all for them. States with three strike laws and mandatory sentences have seen dramatic decreases in violent crimes. This is a good thing. If you commit a serious crime then you should go to jail. What we should concerne ourselves with is the proliferation of laws and regulations that make almost everything and anything illegal. THAT is our lawmakers fault and certainly cannot be blamed on private prisons.

Windy…. You bring up a possibility with your use of the term.. “States with three strike laws and mandatory sentences…” Privately run prisons for ‘Strike outs’ would be a way to clear out the Govt. systems of repeaters. If this private system were administered by the States…. WHOOOOAH I’d like to see how each… administers its own and how quickly each states private system’s reputation developes.

Mike K March 12, 2013 at 2:07 pm

We’re paying ~$30K/year in taxes per person in prison. Mandatory minimums for non-violent (drug) offenders drive prison profits by creating long sentences for crimes without victims. When your business is locking people up, the more ways to do so the better. For-profit prisons create dangerous incentives and you best believe this industry has lobbyists.

TL;DR: There is a profit motive for putting humans in cages and we taxpayers are the ones supporting it.

GoneWithTheWind March 12, 2013 at 10:13 pm

It is damned hard to get hard time for simply using drugs. It is a myth that thousands of drug offenders are in prison simply for using drugs. Most people who get jail time for drug related crimes have broken a long list of laws and done so repeatedly. What the DA does is drop some of the charges to save the cost and time of a trial and the crime they do time on may sound like a simple drug offense but clearly it isn’t.

Reply Report comment

joe March 13, 2013 at 4:35 am

I assure you drug offenses are not “victim-less” crimes. There is a whole list of crimes that go hand in hand with drugs. Robbery, theft, burglary: used to pay for more drugs. Drive-by shootings, assault, murder: used to control the rival drug dealers. And the argument of making drugs legal wont work. Crack, meth, PCP and a whole bunch of others affect people in a way that makes them very dangerous. It fries their brain to the point they cant tell right from wrong. Then you have all the crimes that legalizing was supposed to prevent.

So no…drug offenses are not a “victim-less” crime.

You are absolutely right on this one. At least in 2016 there will be a number of good candidates to choose from: Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, and who knows who else will emerge over the next two or three years. I think Rubio has to be on the ticket–to pull Florida and Hispanic voters. But I really like Rand Paul for President.

Judy,

Yep. There was another question that was worded incorrectly, the question on the definition of “atheism”. The answer that was marked as correct is that the atheist doesn’t believe in God. It would be more correct to say that according to the atheist, there is no God. The atheist denies the existence of God.

California Seizes Guns as Owners Lose Right to Keep Arms
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-12/california-seizes-guns-as-owners-lose-right-to-bear-arms.html?cmpid=yhoo

California is the only state that tracks and disarms people with legally registered guns who have lost the right to own them, according to Attorney General Kamala Harris. Almost 20,000 gun owners in the state are prohibited from possessing firearms, including convicted felons, those under a domestic violence restraining order or deemed mentally unstable.

“Very, very few states have an archive of firearm owners like we have,” said Wintemute, who helped set up the program.

Judiciary approves gun background checks

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a Democratic bill calling for background checks on all gun sales, which could potentially lead to the biggest change in U.S. gun laws in years.

…mandates background checks on all gun purchases and sales, including private transactions. State governments will also be able to tap into a national criminal background check system.

1. I find it interesting that anyone still believes the vote is real
2. Quit giving endless appeals and put prisoners to work duty. I’m more concerned with what happens to the hardened cons when TDL announces due to budget cuts they can no longer hold them.
3. I think cops are feeling the stress like no other time in history. They are truly damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I just hope they still have sense enough to refuse the final order before WROL.
4. So what? California is about to reap what it has sowed for years. Gun businesses, reality hunting series and hunters will be leaving California in droves along with Colorado due to the new gun laws. Texas welcomes hunters and their dollars. Notice how those laws have not stopped any new shoot em up movies coming out of hollyweird.
5. Only Jesus can speak to how religiously smart I am.
6. And you’re not buying in bulk to match them? Why not?
7.Avoid any dealings with the government. Live your life as to give them as little say in it as possible. Just as the dictatorship continues so does the rise of alternative forms of payment for goods and self reliance.
8. They will only realize that they are part of the population to be exterminated when it is too late. And to be honest all I have to say is, told ya so.
9. Illegals are part of the TDL army
10. I quit organized religion after they tried to raise money to buy the pastor a Mercedes. Sandals were good enough for my Savior, why not the pastor?

Legally, a preacher can not preach politics from the pulpit. The church and the preacher can lose their tax exempt status. They can say generic stuff like, “Pray for our leaders” or “Pray for a good outcome on the election” but they can’t tell their congregation how to vote.

Reply Report comment

Thomas March 13, 2013 at 11:10 am

Depends on your definition of legally.

1st Amendment says no laws respecting establishment or practice of religion. I go with that rather than the IRS nonsense.

I don’t listen to Chuck Baldwin and don’t agree with his article, but he has the right to preach whatever he wants.

Reply Report comment

JP in MT March 13, 2013 at 11:10 am

When you take the government’s money, you have to play by their rules. We have a church in Montana that IS NOT 501c certified for that reason.

That rule was placed into the tax law because LBJ was resoundingly criticized in churches in Texas. As a Senator he had 2 lines inserted into the tax code to prevent that.

Pay the taxes and preach the truth.

Reply Report comment

JP in MT March 13, 2013 at 11:12 am

Of course this is supposed to apply to ALL 501c non-profits, like ACORN and Code PINK.

Reply Report comment

Thomas March 13, 2013 at 12:30 pm

Yeah, I agree with you about what the rationale is supporting the “don’t preach” claim, but its one question at a time. Is the alleged prohibition against speech by a pastor etc constitutional, certainly not.

Is taxing churches constititutional in light of “no law regarding establishing and practice of religion”, that’s a different question. (Same answer in my opinion btw)

And the church is not taking Uncle Sam’s money, its just not giving Uncle Sam money that he is not entitled to. There is a difference, to me at least.

The whole thing is soft tyranny — squelching speech through threats by the .gov.

Patriot Dave March 13, 2013 at 5:18 pm

some legal corrections:
Preachers can talk about politics all they want. They can even endorse a candidate if they make it clear they are doing so as an individual and not as a representative of the denomination. I would have to dig up my case law, but I remember seeing that. Also churches do not have to qualify as 501c3 corps. As a “church”, they are automatically exempt from all taxes. that is well established and not even contested by the irs.
Moral issues overlap legal and political issues. The government has no say as to what a pastor or other religious leader can or cannot say from the pulpit. That would be a direct interference with the operation of the religious institution. Just because an issue has been politicized, does not remove it from the realm of issues that can be addressed. for example just see how many dems show up a black churches. Not a single one has ever lost its tax exemption. This is fear mongering that has succeeded. IMO the tax regulations are unconstitutional. that is why they are never enforced. As well as any other regulations the infringe on either the 1st or 2nd amendments.
