Welcome to The Survivalist Blog – A Quick Tour for New Readers

by M.D. Creekmore on February 24, 2010

Over the last 48 hours we’ve had many new readers to The Survivalist Blog, after getting links from several other blogs and reddit. If this is your first visit to TheSurvivalistBlog.net then welcome.

I thought It would be a good idea to put together a quick tour of the site for you new readers (or long time readers needing more info).

First, my name’s M.D. Creekmore, you can find out more about me here and here. In a nutshell I live full time the off-grid (no electricity from the pole or water from the tap) and work hard to become as self-reliant and removed from the system as possible.

I’m a full time blogger, this blog being my only source of income. The money isn’t much but it doesn’t take a lot to live the way I do. Most of what I make here is invested on more survival gear and my dogs.

The Survivalist Blog is devoted to helping others improve their preparedness and explore ways to survive an economic collapse, peak-oil or other natural or man-made disaster.

Many people hearing the word survivalist, automatically envision shouldering a backpack and running to the nearest wilderness to hide and wait out the collapse. That’s not what this blog is about.

Survival and self-reliance to us, is having ample food and gear to last several years, weapons to defend what we have and the ability to resupply our needs from our efforts such as gardening, domestic animals, hunting, trapping and bartering.

As the system continues it’s decline I’ve noticed a huge spike in traffic and participation on this site. It seems a lot of people are beginning to open their eyes to the true state of our situation and are looking for ways to lessen their dependence on a failing system.

If you’re new to all this and don’t know where to start you should download my free ebook, to help you get started. I’ve tried to keep everything as basic and straightforward as possible, so you shouldn’t be overwhelmed with the information presented.

You might also find it useful to visit my recommended books page. The titles listed under “M.D.’s Most Recommended” are the ones, I find absolutely essential and recommend everyone interested in becoming more self-reliant have a copy of each.

If you like what you read here you can follow my future entries by visiting this blog, (don’t forget to bookmark) our by subscribing to the free RSS  feed or you can get updates by email.

Thanks for stopping by – I hope you enjoy your stay at TheSurvivalistBlog.net – If you have any questions feel free to drop me a note in the comments below or via my contact form. We’re glad to have you.

MD:

I have nothing to say except thank you for what you do. I've been a lurker, follower, back-and-forth-type, and you keep it true. That is very refreshing in this day and age. Thanks and please keep it up. Mike

The link to your ebook comes back with an error response "the file is damaged and can not be repaired".

For the new readers,

I can't really speak for other survival sites, because I haven't been to many of them. But this site is very informative, compared to the other few I have seen. Between M.D. and all the other people here, all the questions I was pursuing when I got here have pretty much been answered.

If you are serious about being prepared, then I would recommend taking the time to read through the archive blogs. There is such a vast amount of info to be found there. Some of it I'm sure you may already know, but I can just about assure you that you will find some stuff there that will teach you some new ideas.

Knowledge, passion, and instinct are the keys to survival. Learn as much as you can, while you can, and good luck to you all.

Anonymous 1:14 PM,

I tried it and worked fine for me so I don't know? Has anyone else had any problems with the link?

To Anonymous 1:14PM,
Try upgrading to the latest version of Acrobat Reader.

To M.D. Creekmore,
The survival library on CD arrived in good condition, thank you. It will take MONTHS to go through this information.

I also found a neat website that had a few things I haven't seen before:

Recieved the book $50 underground house in the mail. I do appreciate it. Made me consider a root cellar now before I build a house. Your pal the Envirocapitalist.

Great stuff on this blog, very practical. Another interesting site is GEAB Leap2020 which also tags interesting articles on current events.

Dean in Mich pretty much sums up how most of the regular followers feel. We're all in this together and we're all here to help. Keep up the good work M.D.

Your response to Bison was very civil and gracious…more than he deserves, me thinks.

I enjoy your site and have learned quite a bit. Each time I've opened it, something new pops out and keeps my interest going. Please keep it up and help us to "help ourselves".
