Witness 9mm

by M.D. Creekmore on December 1, 2007

Well today was the first day that I have been off work in the last month that I had nothing to do, so I decided to take advantage of the fact and go do a little shooting. The weather was hot indeed at about 85 degrees with the sun shining down, but no cross wind to speak of, it was the perfect day to try that new pistol I had traded for a few days ago.

The piece of metal I had in my had was a new Witness 9mm that I found at the local gun shop that was priced at $350. After much haggling and bargaining we came to an agreement, and I went home with the new toy in hand.

The new Witness felt good in the hand with the grip being at just the right angle and size to match the contour of my hands, balance was also perfect. After loading 15 rounds of 9mm ammo in the magazine, I fired five rounds at the target I had set up about 15 yards away, the group was about three inches wide and about two inches left of center. Not bad I thought, considering this was the first time I had ever fired the pistol.

I had brought three boxes of Winchester 115 grain white box ammo from Wal-Mart with me so I decided to try the new weapon out for reliability before testing for accuracy from the bench at 25 yards. So I shot this thing holding it upside down, sideways slow fire and as fast as I could pull the trigger. Not a jam, hangup or misfire of any kind. Just pop-pop-pop- over and over again. I even tried shooting it with a limp wrist which jams up most auto pistols, pop-pop-pop it went.

After letting the barrel cool for 30 minutes or so I shot it from a bench rest at 25 yards. Ten rounds in a three inch group in the center of the target. Apparently my first grouping of two inches left of center, had been corrected by breaking the gun in so to speak, while testing for reliability. The Witness 9mm has found a home with me.
