The Wood Stove, Obama and Murphy’s Law

by M.D. Creekmore on November 6, 2008

It’s been unseasonably warm for the last several days, and I have used the sunny days to my advantage to get some work done around the homestead kitty. The main chore to take up my time was cutting, splitting and stacking firewood to burn in the recently installed wood stove.

Heating with wood is really the only option for those of us who live off the grid. Sure I could use a propane wall heater but propane costs money and tanks have a tendency to run empty, when the temperature drops below freezing, Murphy’s Law at work or so it would seem. Anyway the wood stove is much more reliable and cost efficient.

Trailers are notoriously cold in winter and hot in summer, I am hoping that the skirting and roof help mine weather the elements better, if not; I will be in for some cool winter nights, at least for those of us living in the south the cold spells are usually of short duration and less severe than those in the north. Anyway if it gets cold I can don the thermal underwear and slide into the sleeping bag to keep warm.

On another note; we will soon have our first black, Muslim, liberal, socialist, gun banner setting in the captains chair of the USS Titanic. Truth is it didn’t really matter who ended up in the Whitehouse we are all screwed anyway. It’s like a runaway train, after reaching that certain point it becomes impossible to stop the crash, the only thing left to do is hang on and try to survive the impact.

To his followers Obama seems to have reached God status, where he can say or do no wrong, putting forth images of prosperity and heaven on earth for those who accompany him on his journey to rebuild America in his own image. Unfortunately the only benefit likely to be bestowed upon those kneeling at his feet could be a rise in the monthly welfare check. I don’t think I have the correct skin tone or practice the right religion to see any benefits trickle down from his administration. Time will tell.
