The first thing I do to my Mora Knives is to thoroughly clean the blade with alcohol to rid it of oil and residue. Then I apply gun blue solution to darken the blade against the sun reflection, this is probably not necessary, but I have never liked shiny blades.

Next I drill a small hole in the handle and attach a leather thong, leaving approximately a five to six inch loop after tying. After soaking the knot in water I hang it over the wood stove to dry, tightening it up a bit. If you intend to carry your knife on a belt I would leave the thong off, because it tends to catch on trees and branches. I slide mine in a small fanny pack with my survival kit before heading out, so for me this is a non-issue.

I have never been a big fan of the synthetic sheaths that come with the Mora Knives, sure they are functional but to me nothing beats the look and feel of leather. I made the leather sheath shown in the photo in about an hour at a total cost of approximately three dollars.
